I was going to buy a JD x570 as it takes hills well, especially with HDAP tires. However, the dealer has not been responsive and I’m not calling him a 5th time to find out the status of my order. What Kubota is most similar? How much do they cost? Which is better? What are the differences? I dont need a lot of extras, just something to get the job done safely. Thanks much.

I originally looked at the JD 500 series and realized the capability of a Kubota BX for the difference was worth it. While you infer mowing is your only operation, the BX will offer you a variety of options in the future that you don't necessarily need to spend money on now.... front blade for dirt/snow, snow blower, front end loader, tiller, rear blade, etc. And, many times, dealers that sell these tractors rent attachments/implements you don't want to store or justify buying. IMO, the BX will outlast the 500 Series due to durability, but I only had a repair business and worked on garden tractors for 12 years.

Thanks for your advice- I visited a pretty wonderful Kubota dealer in Sharon Springs and ended up buying a used GR2120, 4wd and what a difference that makes! I’ve been mowing hills that used to make me nervous and this is so solid and fun. And I still never got a call back from the John Deere dealer...

It bugs me when you call a dealer a few times and they never return my call. I guess lying to me upsets me more but there is no excuse for either. Both are reasons to move on.

Congrats on the GR2120. I just rolled over 17 hours on mine. It’s quite the machine. For terrain and hills, I can’t imagine a better machine. I already need to sharpen my blades - just so many rocks on my property - I swear they grow out of the ground.

Interesting that you mention the 570, since I'm also trying to decide between the 570 and the Kubota 2020. The one thing I'm uncertain about with either tractor is how easy (or hard) it is to hook up the subframe assembly and plow, etc. on either tractor. It's disappointing that neither dealer has this equipment for me to at least see. I've looked at some videos where people mention it not being easy to attach / detach the deck. For the Kubota, I've also seen a video where the guy struggles with his 2020 to hook up the subframe and the contraption that goes in the front of the tractor. Just does not look user friendly. I'd love to get some input from owners of either tractor.

There are both good and not so good (or responsive) dealers of most brands and I hope no one is trying to generalize that one brand or other is much different in that regard.

Cheers!

I have been operating a GR2120, mower, and snow blower since 2013. The mower is pretty simple to mount and remove, heavy though. There really is not a 'sub-frame' for the snow blower. There is a face plate and 2 'C' receivers on the front of the tractor, and the snow blower mounts to it. Hook up drive shaft and hydraulics, and you are good to go. You do have to get the angle just right for the top mounting lip and 'C' receivers to go together. Takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, depends on its mood and your attitude :) Philip.

Philip,

Thanks. I wouldn't be hooking up a blower, but rather a blade. So I can only assume that either a blade or plow hooks up to the same mechanism that attaches to the front of the tractor - whatever that might be. The dealer gave me info that references a "GR Sure Connect Hitch and Sub-frame" - item GR2700B - for which he is listing a price of $567. Then there is the "sure connect" front blade at an additional $417. So I'm presuming that the "receivers" you refer to might be similar to this sub-frame? Thanks for the feedback on the mower...I have no doubt it has some weight but can't be as bad as some of these fabricated decks. Looked at a deck on a Simplicity that the dealer claims weighs around 300 lbs! Think I'll stick with a stamped deck.

In general, though, how do you find the 2120? No issues so far in the 5 years you've had it? That's a fairly similar tractor to the 2020.

I am very satisfied with my purchase of the GR2100. It replaced a Deere LX188 that was on its 2nd transmission, getting ready for a 3rd before I traded it in. I do mow a small pond bank, but nothing too extreme. The 4WD has been perfect for my application, no slippage on wet grass, and I do not use tire chains for snow blowing. Mowing is straight forward, I do use the mulch kit, and the snow blower is a beast. Philip.
