kubota B2150
Hi,
My 1994 Kubota B2150HST should have a maximum forward travel speed of 10mph in high-range, 5 mph in mid-range and 2.5 mph in low range. Instead, it's maximum speed is exactly half in each range ( 5 mph in high range, etc.). Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be ?

Dont know about your Kubota, but my BIL's NH has a button for rabbit and turtle(rabbit being fast and turtle being slow) which pretty much halfs the speed of each range. Does yours have such a button or lever? I am sure someone here has one of your model and will respond soon.

Is the engine comming up to full rpm's and the travel speed is dowm or is the engine not comming up to full rpm's.

Have the hydraulic fluids and filters been changed as scheduled? I think that model also has a screen in the hydraulic system that needs to be cleaned when doing filters and fluids. It could be partially clogged.

Is this a new tractor to you, or just a new problem? What is the history? Did it work fine last week and suddenly something changed or what? Might look under the floor plate near the pedal linkage, operating it by hand while watching what's happening below. Pedal travel in fwd direction may be restricted by a stiff pivot joint or a foreign object. It's amazing the junk that finds its way into the strangest places.

Thanks for replying. I bought the tractor 5 years ago and loaned it to my father-in-law to clear his snow in winter - he was in poor health but couldn't afford a tractor and I
was living in a different province of Canada so I couldn't do it for him. He's passed on now and we've moved back to New Brunswick Canada to be closer to my 80 year old mother-in-law. The tractor was fine when I bought it, but this winter when I started using it I noted how slow moving it is now. The pedal seems fine but I'll look at it more closely as you suggest. I do remember there were two grease fittings on the pedal linkage pivots - I'll grease them and see if it helps.

Assuming the Hydraulic filters are clean and the HST is OK. I would check the shaft that the pedal is attached to and see if the pedal has slipped. i seem to remember someone finding this on another thread some time back.

Gary Fowler, thanks for replying. Yes, my tractor has a lever for rabbit and turtle. I played with it yesterday (just in my driveway) but couldn't notice any difference in the forward speed of the tractor - maybe I should go for a 1 mile drive while my wife follows me in my truck to verify that, but I'd say the speed lever makes no difference to the tractors speed. I did note that when the lever is in the FAST position, the tractor will only move forward. The lever has to be in the SLOW position for the tractor to move backwards.

Hooked on HP, thanks for your reply. The engine is coming up to full rpm's.

OK, so you have the switch and since it is electrically operated, could be your father didnt use it and it has corroded up. I would bet money on that rather than a complicated hydro suction screen scenario. Do a little more investigation on that switch, move it back and forth, spray some contact cleaner on it. If you can find where the solenoid is that it works, you could jumper it and verify the switch is malfunctioning. Sometimes, just moving them back and forth with some cleaner on them will clean them up enough to start working. I have on on my boat trim tab that set up for about 2 years and wouldnt work, then works sporadically and requires some flipping back and forth to make it work sometimes.
