I was just curious what others thought. If Kubota offered a utility trailer designed for off road use to tow behind your sub-compact or compact tractor (for moving firewood, tools, etc), would you be interested? Assume that it was built for a tractor (larger wheels, good ground clearance, balanced well), branded Kubota (matched your tractor) and had a manual dump, what would you be willing to pay? Would you want a hydraulic dump option? What would that be worth? Assume that it was designed to safely carry the maximum limit in the ops manual for your size tractor.

In case you were curious why I ask, we (me and the guys at our dealership) were discussing this at lunch and I was wondering if a tractor company could complete with the "Northern Tools" type trailers out there. I say "no" but the sales guys said "yes." So, I thought I would ask you all.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Wanted a trailer so bad for years, would say YES to trailer with dump, even hydraulic, but have to say NO now...........you see this thing called the RTV1100 with dump bed and came along.

But would take the XB trailer now if I could hook it up to the RTV hydraulics, would double my hauling capacity.

Seriously if Kubota could get something rugged like the King Kutter XB trailer with flip down sides and 3 way rear or side dumping, I do think people would go for them for estate size projects.

I would buy one. But it would have to be no more than $2500 Canadian as that is what I can get a Weber Lane Supertilt estate trailer for with hydraulic dumping.

I think price is going to be key. You can get the "ATV WAGON" trailers for around $2000 delivered. They handle 1500 lbs and have electric dump. Very hard to beat the price.
Bosski ATV Wagon @ Mowers Direct

They are manufactured in China I believe which is why they can sell them cheaply.

The next step up are the King Kutter XB trailers which retail around $2300

I've got the bosski. Electric dump and brakes. I bought mine used for $1k IMG_8287.JPG

pulling a car hauler double axle, with axle seatting on top of springs. for nice low lift leg and get up on top of deck.
i also have a pickup truck bed/frame cut off at bed and a tonge welded to the front.

FEL does pretty much all i want
i do not have a tractor at moment with a 3pt hitch, if i did it would be pallet forks or a couple "carray alls" custom made for various duties around the farm. and most like a TNT for the 3pt hitch.

with above said.... small little wagons not much intrest to me. not big enough.

if i did want a small trailer...
  1. brakes no if ands or buts, i would need to be able to engauge and dis engauge brakes without any vehicle or battery to do so.
  2. tires and brakes, it would be awesome to have split left/right brakes for trailer. mud slop, ruts backing up or just pulling it forward. let me control the bloody thing vs having it jack knife on me when i do no want it to. and then jack knife when i want it to. it is all easy on nice flat ground, but mud/ruts/ and hills/ditches and in trees and thickets*meh*
  3. if you are not putting on hydrualic motors, or electrical motors or differential to PTO, so rear wheels can be control from driver seat of tractor. then just put standard road trailer tires on it.
  4. i would need to be able to have a ball hitch to road trailer here and there with regular vehicle not just tractor.
  5. double axles. if possible front and/or rear axle be adjustable as far as front to back of trailer. other words i need to disconnect from trailer and not have it tongue heavy or rear heavy and have it flip up or down on me. and watching jack sink into the mud. other times just need double axles to make it easier to back up and handle some heavier weight.
  6. side to side dump, plus back to front dump (3 way dump)
  7. sides hing out for larger working area (much like tailgate of a truck with a couple cables to hold tail gate flat with bed of truck, but in this case sides open up)
  8. rear gate / ramp that can also swing left/right pending on were pins are located
  9. ability to toss in a 12v winch into front of trailer to pull stuff in. be nice if doubled up with a small little crane, that swivels left/right, and you can either toss a chain or run cable from winch up and through it.
  10. drop a couple poles in the front corners, and some lights, so i can swivel them around and raise them up and down. and let the juice come from tractor and/or pull vehicle (truck)

with above said
  1. there air a lot of small little trailers for ATV / UTV, and then little trailers for regular cars / campers / trucks /etc... for hauling / camping gear. that are not big to haul a car on but small enough for a riding lawn mower, scooter, wheel chair, bike, etc....
  2. folks looking for small trailer most likely have a riding lawn mower or slightly bigger SCUT. that may or may not have a FEL. and dealing with tree limbs, some dirt, some rock, some stone, cut grass clippings, fence posts, lumber. and most likely dealing with lawn around home. and not wanting to make ruts in the yard.
  3. give them some flotation with wider wheels.
  4. and ability to crank the trailer around little iddy spaces between side of home and property line / fence, vs making wider turn,
  5. give them abilty to deal with heavy objects over 40lbs. up to a couple hundred or more. and get them on/off trailer.
  6. let them run the trailer to local nursery to get a load of black dirt for there flower beds, then once at home hook up to SCUT to pull across lawn to place the dirt.
  7. let them run to local hardware stores and get some stone/decorative brick for a wall / terracing and bring back home and hook up to scut to move it around on the lawn.

The biggest issue with a tractor pulled trailer, is that I require the tractor, in most instances, to fill the trailer. So for me, I would require it to be a 'wagon' type trailer which has a hitch that could be easily disconnected along with the hydraulics. Maybe a pintle type hitch. I want tires both front and back which will allow me to drop the trailer, lock the brakes, and fill it with whatever I need, with my FEL. THEN, quickly and easily hitch back up, take the trailer wherever I'd like, and dump it from the seat.

That would be a trailer I would be interested in purchasing. Otherwise, I'll stick with the 2nd person, a Truck, and my dump trailer. Those supertilt trailers are interesting, but I think I'd only get a scissor lift.
