Hello,

While shopping for a new Kubota TLB we are also shopping for a trailer to transport it on. 1st question, how long of a trailer do I need? 2nd will a dump trailer work so it can do double duty (transport the tractor, and haul gravel sand and excavated fill) and if so how wide a trailer do these tractors require?

Thanks in advance, Tim

I'm kinda in the same dilema. I was thinking about getting a dump trailer to pull the l39 around in but I would need minimum 18' and really should go to 20'. A trailer that large weighs about 7,000 lbs and that would way overtax my my f350 v8 gasser.

Here is the link I was looking at a 20' gooseneck.

For my needs I think I will get a 20' equipment trailer as light as possible and a 12' dump trailer. I think that I can get both of these trailers for cheaper than one 20' gooseneck and in the long run would meet my needs.

Just my 2 cents.

What model of tractor are we talking about? a B21, a L39 or a L48? There's a big difference between a B21 and a L39. We're not talking about the same size of trailer or capacity for a tractor of 7000 lbs or 3800 lbs.

I transport my L5450 w/ backhoe on a 20' tandem axle (two 7,000 lb torsion bar axles) bumper hitch trailer using a 3/4T HD truck. The truck is the limiting factor in my case, by virtue of its limited weight versus total trailering weight and the fact the my trailer is bumper hitch versus fifth wheel.

Assuming a lowest stance trailer deck, the widest trailer deck width available is approximately 82" between wheel wells, which is just barely adequate for my tractor. Of course, one can always set the rear wheels to fit a trailer... but wide stance rear wheels are also desirable from a stability standpoint... the hoe is a LOT of high weight affecting center of gravity.

If you get a trailer with a wholly flat deck (wheels placed below deck) then tractor width is generally not an issue... but higher trailers = less driving stability and that much more height you have to drive up onto.

A dump trailer is an excellent option for a small TLB set-up. Just get your tape measure out and make sure its all do-able and safe. Good luck.

Sorry I should have specified, we are looking for a TLB in the size range of the L35,L39 or L48. We are not limiting ourselves to the Kubota as we have looked at the JD 110 as well. Thanks for all the good advice and information!

OK, so definitely a 20' double axle (minimum axle rated capacity 5000 lbs each). That size always comes with brakes. IMO, you can choose between a bumper model or goose neck for that weight (for bigger loads, let's say 10000 lbs I recommend goose neck). About width, 6'6" (78") minimum . Better if you can find 80" or 82". Your FEL bucket will be at least 72" wide (L39).

It seems that most of the dump trailers in the 20' range weigh over 6K pounds alone. This pretty much eliminates it from usable use to me and my 1 ton trucks. Anyone who has an L35,L39,L48 what is the absolute smallest trailer that they could load the machine on. I don't want to buy two trailers, and I have no way to move two trailers to one jobsite easily, it would much more sense to be able to do it all with one!

Thanks for all the help everyone!

How about a <26,000gvw dump truck and a flat "tractor hauling" trailer?

There are always used "municipal" type single axle dump trucks for sale relatively cheap. If under 26k GVW (in Wisconsin at least) you don't need a CDL. A 20' dump trailer has to be HUGE $$, as well as weight.

EDIT: If you fill out your profile, we may be able to offer more specific information for you.

nuke,

Did you get your machine yet? I didn't see anything about it or any pics? Maybe I was out of town and missed the threads.

20' trailer for L39.

Jim,
I'm late for work, but I had to reply to this. No not yet. My dealers still don't have one in. I'm hoping in the next few days to say yes as my wife is now on my side. You guys will be the first to know.

Also thanks for the cubic ft. reply in the other tread.

Tim
