Over the past few weeks since I started reading in this forum I came to the conclusion that I have been getting the run-around with local Kubota prices. I read many posts re: pricing in various parts of the country. The result without a doubt: if you have more dealers in your areea, the price will be lower due to competition. Makes sense. We have two dealers that I know of in this whole state and as such the prices are high. Don't get me wrong, I still like the Kubota range but am now stirring up a hornets nest. I am starting to lean heavily towards an old workhorse I have known since childhood (and I'm 70 now). Dollar for $ and HP for HP you get much more. I know I will get a lot of hate mail, but I think I will buy a tractor I plowed with when I was about 16, a ZETOR. Before you crucifice me, parts are available for models over 30 years old. What other model can say that? Only drawback, I'll need a much heavier trailer since the smallest Zetor weighs over 6500 lbs. without attachments. Please, don't be too hard on me, but I still read all posts. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think you should at least fill out your profile. This way, someone, wherever you live with two dealers, may be able to help you.

Thanks for your reply, Larry. I have been in contact with both dealers (and some in neighboring states). Only thing I don't get, did you think I need help with finding them or do you actually think someone could HELP me with negotiating a lower, more reasonable price? By the way, most of my recent posts show what state I'm in and therefore didn't find it necessary to include it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hopefully you won't get 'flamed' here... this forum mostly has a fairly genteel bunch of participants... at least regarding their online behavior. Off-line... well, you never know /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As for which brand to buy, if you read the messages here, you'll see the unspoken rule is that choosing the equipment you prefer and finding a good dealer are the most important recommendations.

So, if the Zetor makes you happy and you have someone you feel comfortable buying it from, no one else's opinion matters! Besides, the "big name" brands are already well represented here so there will always be room for someone who has something a bit unique.

Welcome to the forum, and please share your progress with us .

go for it. get what you feel comfortable with both in the usage and the$. Many old tractors are good workhorses. I've thought about buying an older one but I don't know much about them.

No reason for any flaming; it's your money and you should buy what you're comfortable with. In my area, I think Zetor dealers are a bit scarce, so I would be a little concerned about parts and service, but I do know of one Zetor dealer 100 miles from here that's been selling them quite awhile, I was there one day while they were demonstrating their hay equipment (being pulled by air-conditioned Zetors) and they seemed to me to be pretty nice tractors. I also know he provides good service because I was present a couple of times when he sent a technician to a neighbor's place to work on hay equipment.
