Guys I am new here and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the Kubota RTV 400ci. I have 60 acres here with trails cut all through the property. I currently have a Honda 420 Rancher, but would like to get a UTV as it seems it would be easier for my wife and kids to ride along with me. I wouldn't be doing any major work with it, just the occasional hauling. Some of my trails around the property are pretty inclined, so I didn't know how well the Kubota would do on these trails. They are just trails made with a dozer, mainly used for deer hunting. We won't be doing any trail riding anywhere but here at the house, so I don't think speed will be a big issue. I would like to put a snow plow on the machine as I currently have one on my ATV, and it is pretty handy.

The other reason I am looking at the 400ci is because a buddy of mine offered me what I think is a pretty nice deal on his. He has more money than he does sense LOL. He bought a new one in July 2012. It has around 20 hours on it. He offered it to me for $5,500. That is what his payoff is as he put a couple of thousand dollars down when he bought it. He is wanting to get a pontoon boat now. Next year, the pontoon will be for sale.

I was wondering if this was a pretty good deal, and any opinions on the machine. Thanks in advance.

From reading previous posts etc. earlier when the 400 first came out, reviews were not in a full supportive opinion.
Some issues were that the single cylinder engine had a lot of vibration, transmission is belt driven. Perhaps look back here on TBN for the reviews.

I have the RTV 500 and my neighbor has the RTV 900. Mine is more agile and his is a "Work Tank" that Gen Patten would have liked. My experience with mine (Have it 3 yrs. now) was the issue of fine tuning the servo for the shifting on grades. Since I have that 85% corrected, I am pleased with mine. It will climb in low range with lots of power!

As to purchasing your neighbors, price seems fair but what about warranty? Is it transferable?

Perhaps go to a dealer and do some comparing on the different units, and possibly you may be able to get a deal on a new one with Kubota 0% financing if they still offer it. What I liked about the Kubota 0% deal was the insurance ------ unit is 100% insured for loss (fire, theft, fell off truck / trailer etc.).

And finally, if you do purchase a RTV --- contact your home owner insurance carrier for liability insurance even though you are using it on your property, Murphy's Law! Stupid things can happen!
