I'd like to load some gravel into the dump bed of our RTV1120, but I want to also protect the outer bed sides. I started looking into taping some cardboard on them, but quickly realized they were made of plastic and not painted metal like we had on our RTV900.

Has anyone removed these plastic panels before? I'd rather not break them, so if anyone knows the trick it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Are you loading from the side with an FEL bucket?

The bed has metal sides with plastic trim panels on the exterior of the sides.

Awesome. That's what I was hoping. My 900 only has metal outers with no liners.

So,,, why would you have to worry about the plastic outers?? How could you damage them???

I load my 900 with a very big tractor and FEL and I don't worry about my bedsides. :)

Take a 2x2 and attach some 1/4 plywood to both sides of the 2x2 that will go over the outside and inside of the bed, you could put foam tape on the inside of the plywood so that the wood will not touch the plastic sides.

First answer I am loading from the rear with a 5' FEL. There is an outer plastic cosmetic cover protecting the inside metal liner which is sprayed with linex. Of course I could put wood over the outside, but I am looking for an easy way out, hence my question how do you remove the outer plastic shells.

Why? We just like to keep our equipment looking like new and if I can prevent scratches I will.

thanks

I totally understand and also want to protect my investment.

Maybe load from the side and then only have to worry about protecting the tailgate if it's up?? I usually haul dirt with my tailgate down so don't worry about it.

On my RTV 900 there are some plastic tab inside the bed to release the plastic side panels.

Honestly, there is a metal overhang above the side panels that keep most debris off.

I've loaded literally tons of stuff in my bed and never scratched the plastic sides.

I could not find how to remove the plastic panels in the owner's manual. But if you look under the outside lower bed rail, you will see small round black plastic "tabs" that appear to secure the plastic panels. I would call the dealer where you purchased the unit to be on the safe side - I feel sure they should know.

As for keeping your equipment looking like new, I am as picky as anyone. I have had my X1120 for 18 months and it does look like new with less than 40 hrs. On it.
