We have suppplied numerous Kubota rotary tillers ,often used on other tractor makes. Typically they have curved blades instead of L shaped more commonly used in Australia.
The tillers are designed primarily for rice, where the soil is well tilled (soft), but they work well in most soils except where the going is very heavy. We always suggest the ground should be ripped first anyway.
Our customers seem happy with them , and we have very few failures. There is a shearpin on the spindle on most models, which will break if you overload it.
I read somewhere on the net that the curved blades take around 20-30% less power to drive than the L shaped ones,as the ground is sliced first before being turned. Blades are left and right hand. This means you can drive a larger tiller with less power, using less fuel in the process.
We sell them for AUD 875, or about USD450 to give an indication of price. If parts are needed, bearings and seals are aftermarket, blades are USD 5 ea. If other major parts fail, we have at least 30 or 40 units at any time for wrecking. We recently took a truckload for scrap (siezed /broken/beyond economic repair)
The linkage attachment is category 1, but you will generally need to cut a new shaft to size, and occasionally move the tiller mounting pins forward to accomodate tractors with very short linkage arms, too close to the PTO shaft.
For the price , I think they are a good thing.
