Morning all. I have a Kubota U25 Excavator with a corroded seat belt latch. I've disassembled it, ultrasonic cleaned, and lubed - but it just doesn't work quite right and I just don't trust it.

Any recommendations for a replacement? I couldn't find one in the parts diagrams on Messick's website, which is typically my go-to.

FYI - it is the type that has a cable attached to the latch and is retractable.

Thanks for your help.

The retractor mechanism on the belt for my L4330 corroded inside and no amount of cleaning/lube would fix it. Kubota wanted something like $100 or more for a replacement, so I just went with some inexpensive universal automotive belts. I think from here - Buy Replacement Seat Belts | SeatBeltsPlus.com They were even available in orange or gray. Work terrific.

p.s. I see these guys even have reasonably priced retractable ones - Tractor Seat Belts

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about getting non-retractable since the retractable ones seem uncomfortable after a while.

I admit I very seldom wear a seatbelt on a tractor, but I think it's a good idea on the excavator. I've almost thrown myself out of that thing. Maybe it's an experience thing.

I finally found the Kubota set - 115 bucks from Messicks. Can't buy the latch only.

Well - I just rolled the dice on a 20-dollar ebay seatbelt assembly that looks nearly identical to the one on my U25.

Thanks for the input and help, JRobyn.

I'm not sure if I'd buy an ebay seatbelt for a car, but I think the forces in the excavator are much lower than a car on the interstate.

Good deal. My wife actually MUCH prefers the non-retracting for exactly the reason you cite - they tend to tighten over time.

Pretty sure that any seatbelt manufacturer has to be certified by DOT or some gubmint organization.

Yeah, the latching mechanism on my L2900 is pretty banged up as well. It won't release very easily - at least not without a lot of and cursing. I know they're a PITA on occasion - but I'm working on a slope a lot of time, and I like the snapped-in feeling.
If anyone's found a good source for a plain-jane 2-point seat belt, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Surplus Center normally has plain old generic seat belts available.

For the record, my ebay seatbelt came and had a Kubota part number on it!!

It was a 90% match to the old one. I installed it in no time, and it works great. It has equivalent fit / finish / feel to the original.

Take a chance on an aftermarket unit. I think you'll be pleased.

:thumbsup:Thanks for the seat belt info. I was so tired of my Kubota's uncomfortable retractable. Ordered a regular orange 2 point with the latch instead of a button. I should be able to unbuckle without removing my gloves and the orange color easier to find behind the seat.
