I have a L3400DT and was wondering if there was a simple way to plug into the tractor hydralics for rear equipment use such as a backhoe?

I wish I could do a backhoe, but the CFO won't allow it. I don't know if adding hydraulics for a backhoe is similar to simply adding rear remotes, but if it is look for recent threads on adding rear remotes for a top link on a 3400 (search feature is not working or I'd link you). Adding rear remotes is very easy to do.

If your tractor has an option for a rear remote and does not have a FEL, yes and relatively easy if you have the shop manual to show you which port is which.

If you have a FEL and no rear remote, then it may be much more complicated. I have a M5400, only one output to tap which was used by the FEL. The dealer wouldn't do the job saying it would take parts they couldn't order, I ended up tapping the power beyond off the FEL for my project.

its not too difficult ,bbut you must do it right or you can screw things up. If you want to hook up a backhoe, then you have to run it inseries with the loader valve. If you want remotes, its a litle different. I have a 3130 with bh90 hoe, If you need to know specifics, let me know. Mike

The most effective way to power an add on Backhoe is to use a PTO driven pump in a closed loop hydraulic circuit. When you tap your tractor's hydraulic circuit you add the chance of contamination failure to other functional valve bodies and early failure to components that otherwise would not be exposed to add on power beyond acturators.

OB1,

Look on the loader valve for the PB (Power Beyond) port - it now is the hose that goes to the top cover inlet. The "PB" should be cast into the loader valve body.

You can attach the PB hose to the backhoe inlet and return the flow from the open center backhoe valve stack to the top cover inlet hose. Use quick couplers to make it easy to do.

Always have the PB hose hooked to either the top cover inlet or the backhoe inlet or there is no relief valve other than the pump housing - an expensive lesson.

Good luck

If the L3400 DT has a loader, its control valve has a power-beyond hose that goes back to the hydraulic block under the tractor to power the 3-point hitch.

With a subframe-type backhoe, the three point hitch lift function isn't needed - so an easy way to power a backhoe is add a connector so the Power Beyond hose goes to the backhoe instead. The backhoe's return hose would go directly to the transmission - either tee'd into the exhaust line coming from the loader, or into a removeable fitting in the fill hole.
