I'm Comparing these 2 tractors. The K is newer, lower hours (550), but lighter and has R-1's. The JD has the R-4 tires I'd prefer, but has the loader hydraulics plumbed into the rear outlets, it's older and has 1400hrs. Both are priced the same, the K will cost me about $300 more in shipping.

Which comes out the better unit in your opinion?

Kubota M4900DTC Tractors

JOHN DEERE 5310 40 HP to 99 HP For Sale At TractorHouse.com

hmm that's a pretty tough decision. i'm a JD man and if it were me, i would get the Kubota. in my personal opinion, i never was a fan of the 5010 series from JD. the 5020 and 5025 series are head and shoulders better. my friend has a 5310 open station and has had numerous problems with injector pumps, hydraulic pumps, etc. i would also venture as far to guess the Kubota cab is better when comparing these two models. as you know Deere didnt design or build the cabs for the 5010 series. i forgot who it was though. the Kubota is about 2 hours from me, and i can tell you i have heard nothing but good things about the people who are selling it. i dont personally know them, but just what i've heard. if you need some quotes for shipping let me know, theres a few places you might want to check out and get a bid from just for the heck of it. might save you some $$$.

I would be VERY interested in any info you hear because shipping is going to cost me dearly, and I get no tangible "benefit" from it.

Laurin made the 10 series cabs.

I spoke with their sales dept and they are very helpful. I'm getting a quote on remote front hydraulics installed on the 4900.

if you want to get a few quotes go to a site called yesterdays tractors and they have a section specifically for hauling and shipping.

The condition of the Kubota looks so much better than the JD. I would go for the Kubota myself. What will you be using the tractor for?

I desperately need a york raking, grapple bucket tractor for jobsite cleanup for my jobsites. Future work would be field mowing and snowplowing once me and my wife get done building our future home.

Now I just wish I could find a set of R-4's for it.

Have you looked at the Montana 5740 with Cab and FEL? I paid 26k for mine brand new and you get the 4 cylinder mitsibishi diesel with a 3 year warranty. My two picks were the Kubota or the Montana and I liked the heavier Montana You also can get great financing. Probably better rates than if your getting a loan for a used tractor. Just a thought.

The Kubota looks better. But looks can be deceiving. Since you're apparently not able to test drive these tractors, I'd google something like "M4900 sucks", "5310 sucks" and see what comes up. Your best bet is to get some informed, experienced input from TBNers in this thread.

Didn't Montana go bankrupt?
They do give you a lot for youre money. I'm just hesitant to buy a brand that new.......might not be around later.

No, Montana is doing well, and McCormick is also have the company that makes the Montana. LS/LG make some of their tractors. I've had mine a year and I've owned case and john deere and never had any complaints with either brand. I like my Montana better than both.

If you have a Montana or McCormick dealer nearby, I'd go look at one. Wouldn't hurt to compare all the brands.
