Kubota BX24
Today I went to my local Kubota dealer to purchase my filters and lubricants for the 50 hour service on my BX24. The parts man brought out the engine oil filter (#HH150-32430), I picked it up to look at it and low and behold on the side it was stenciled "Made in China". I couldn't believe it!

I guess even the Japanese want some of that cheap labor and higher profits too. And again, another item exported to the US.

I guess the Fram filters might not be that bad.......

I have never been a fan of Fram filters. You might try looking around locally for FleetGuard (at the local International truck dealer) or Donaldson. Both are manufacturers of very high quality filters. Probably one of the easiest to find will be either Wix or Napa filters which are nothing but rebranded Wix filters.

I saw somewhere that Kubota's filters were made by Fleetguard, anyone else know about this?

Well, I got to the Hydro Transmission today and the filter was made in Japan. That kind of supprised me due to the fact that the engine oil filter was made in China.

It is a world market and we do know that people here have complained enough about the prices of parts. I like original equipment filters or better on anything I plan on keeping indefinitely. Anything on a couple year roll, lets do the napa/wix, fram standard issue filters!

China's taking over the world. 'Course, people said the same about Japan, and look what happened...

HH150-32430
Per the Wix site, that's a 51365 (NAPA 1365), which fits a PILE of applications (like some of my John-Deeres, numerous Honda autos/bikes, and a bunch of other stuff). I found it while searching for a filter for brother #2's BX23. According to [5] at the Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference site there are a number of other ones that will work, too. Mobil 1's (I have a Mobil 1 M1-110 on my X595), Purolator Pure One's, longer ones, if they'll physically fit. The filter world is your oyster.. :D

I remember brother #1's jaw bouncing off the floor when he found out the 51365 filter for his J-D would also fit his ST1300 motorcycle. He'd been paying $10-12 for the OEM Honda filter, which is probably a fine filter, but the WIX/NAPA's he had on the shelf for the J-D cost $6. He's happy. :) I, on the other hand, have a Suzuki motorcycle, which uses an unusual thread, so my filter choices are much more limited, and more expensive. :(

A bit further off the subject - filters can be pretty confusing/expensive; I remember searching for a Kohler replacement ($12 for OEM), then finding out that most Kohlers and B&S's take the same filter (the 'net can be very helpful, at times), and there's a wide variety out there to choose from. We ended up using a Fram TG3600 that cost $5.98 at Wally's (cohorts of the Chinese in world domination  ) on my nephew's 25 HP Kohler. A Motorcraft FL400S would work, too ($2.98 at Advance Auto), or Purolator L10241, same price.

One day long ago we were at a Ford Service/Sales school and a Parts Man asked the Engineers if they could make a "Cheap" Filter that would screw on all threads out there on the market. When asked why, the parts mans said---They only want to know if it will fit not how good a job of filtering it does---I work on commission and I will make more money selling engine parts to those guys that buy that "Cheap' Filter-----Imagine the laughter in the room!!! Cheap matters!!!

This doesn't surprise me. This filter runs in a higher pressure environment and should be subject to a very high quality control standard.

Since there are no readily available substitutes, it's comforting to know that this proprietary filter may be held to a higher standard.
