Kubota MX 4800/5200/5800 FOLDED ROPS HEIGHT ?

Will someone please measure distance from ground to ROPS fold on Kubota MX series tractor, and report tire option along with measurement?

"Up" ROPS height is part of Kubota specs @ 95.7" but I cannot find FOLDED height.


Why this request?
To answer: Will Kubota MX with FOLDED ROPS, equipped with 'X' tires, enter a garage with an 84" header?

I've never pulled my ROPS down but I measured to the top of the folding bracket at 75 inches.

Note that up the ROPS measures 92 on R4 tires. I have no idea if AG or turf tires make that much difference to get to your spec height if 96". Note also I have a backhoe, which might give a little more compression to the tires.

As tractor widths are always specified with R1/ag tires, perhaps ROPS heights are specified with R1/ag tires. ((??))

I measured just under 79" to the top of the bracket with R1 tires. It takes several minutes to collapse the ROPS though. I wouldn't want to do it every time, for what it's worth.

Long ago I replaced the expensive Kubota ROPS hinge bolts with generic 9/16" x 4" clevis pins.

I believe the ROPS are made in Kubota plants in Georgia, not Japan. Bolts and nuts are inch standard, not metric.

The factory ROPS hinge bolt is 5/8" X 16 threads per inch (fine thread). 5/8" bolts are easy to find but are usually 12 tpi, (coarse thread). If you find a 5/8" X 16 tpi thread bolt in your local hardware store it will almost certainly be Grade 8.

5/8" X 16 tpi bolts are always available on eBay.



I replaced the two factory ROPS hinge bolts with 9/16" X 4" clevis pins.

These are perfect length. Hairpin clip goes in hole #2.

After you hit your garage header a couple times, plus a few tree branches, the ROPS will vary a few 1,000s, so the pin holes do not line up perfectly.

On the front of the ROPS there is a lesser diameter welded on nut on each side, which is there so one can insert a hex-head 3/8" - 24 thread per inch (fine thread) X 1" bolt on each side to align the ROPS holes. Tight bolt fit the last 1/8", probably due to paint in threads. Turn well lubricated bolts with a wrench the final 1/8" during first insertion.

Tractor Supply Company (TSC) has 3/8" fine thread bolts NOT in the bulk section, where 3/8" bolts are coarse thread, but in the Grade 8 drawers, in two-bolt packs.

As stops will seldom be moved I suggest lubricating stop bolts with anti-seize compound.

It seems likely same dimension clevis pins will fit MX ROPS and L4701 ROPS but measure to check.


Also, eventually you will want to adjust pinch bolts. Toss the used traditional cotter pins. Replace with ring cotters or readily available spring-steel key circles. I use the latter.
