I installed my Kubota belly mower for the first time yesterday on Kubota B5100E. And it appears that the blades are going backwards. Could this be due to how the belt is put on, or maybe the blades were put on wrong. The tractor is about 18 years old. Is there a trick to putting it on. Which direction should the blades be put on, with the curve going up or going down. Any help would be appreciated.

Put them on so that the sharp edges hit the grass when they are spinning.

This was a topic of discussion recently. I think the belt needs to be crossed. I did a search under "mower" and found something titled "B6000 Mower Blades"...............chim

I have responded to this issue in the past as well.

Assuming that (1) you have the front PTO and (2) your B5100 has the same mower setup as my B7100, then the belt will definitely need to be crossed (it is much harder to install the belt in the cross-over mode than the non-cross over mode).

To decide which way to cross the belt, look at the front two pulleys. One will be slightly lower than the other one. Once the height difference is noted, deciding how to cross the belt should be easy... the portion of the belt coming off of the higher pulley should be on top of the portion of the belt coming off of the lower pulley.

The curve on the mowing blade always turns up. This creates the lift required to raise the grass before it is cut.

I too, have responded to this topic recently. I owned a B5100E with an MMM also. I even had a photocopied Kubota service bulletin (with a free hand sketch) about the installation of the belt. There was no cross-over indication on this service bulletin.

Basically, regardless of who says what, the blades need to be rotating so that grass is sent out of the side discharge chute. If they are rotating this way, then your blades are installed incorrectly. If your blades are not turning the right way (sucking in from the side discharge chute) then your belt is installed incorrectly. Maybe there were two different types of mowers/pulley assemblies for this model tractor?

The mower does work when the belts are crossed. But the pulleys are the same height. So when its crossed it rubs.

I found out that the blades were wrong on the mower. The Belt is not supposed to be crossed. Put on the new blades, and it works like a charm. I got my local dealer to check the model No. of the blades compared to my mower, and the model number of the blades were totally wrong.
