I am looking for a heavy cab tractor in the 80-90 pto hp range. Besides regular farming I plan on doing some agro-tourism on the farm this coming year and will be pulling a 25' gooseneck trailer for farm hay rides so the heavier the tractor the safer it will control the hay wagon and people weight. I looked at the M9540 but the weight and frame was smaller than I wanted. I have been looking at the literature on both orange and green tractors of this range and I noticed that the JD has an economy mode pto but I don't see this option in the kubota line. Also between the m96s and m108s it seems that the 108 has a newer designed engine that is tier III so it should be better on fuel Anyone know why they didn't update the 96s?

In comparing apples to apples what is the JD model that is in direct comparison to the m96 or m108? I know that the 5083e and 5093e compare to the m9540 but after that the JD lines seem to blur. If you go to the 5M series it seems to match up with the kubota MX series or JD 6D series it might be the direct comparison. What bothers me about the 6D series is that it is made in mexico which in my opinion is not a country of origin that is known for quality.

Any imput from owners of these lines of tractors would be appreicated.

Thanks for the reply but the Kubota X series is out of my price range. I have been quoted $46k for a new Kubota 96s, $47.5k for 108s and the M100x is $55k. Big difference in price. The deere prices came in at 5105M at $59k, the 6115D at $54k and the much smaller 5093E at $43k. All of these tractors are cab, loader, 4x4 configured as close as possible. I was also suprised when I priced the Massey 5445 and it came in at $58k. Right now all these manufactures are offering 0% for 60 mo.

I am a current owner of a Kubota L4330 and it has been great but on most of the smaller kubota's they weight much less than some of the other brands. However on the 96s and 108s they are right in the ball park with the heavier brands so it makes me wonder why there is such a price difference. There are not many large orange tractors around here as most are green when you get in the 85+ hp range. I don't care to be different but it makes me wonder if I am missing something.

I think I may be misreading your post, are you concerned that the Kubotas cost less?

Just wondering if I am correctly comparing the JD to the M96s & M108s. I believe that the kubota X series is the direct apple to apple with the Deere 5M but am not sure if the 6d is correct to the 96s & 108s or is there a comperable model?

I am wanting to stay in the $45k range but I don't see a JD model that is of the frame size and weight as the kubota S series in that price range.

I would lean toward the green paint but I just don't see why there would be a $10k difference between colors if I am comparing correctly.

The older farmers seem more set in their ways as to which brand they buy. We do see them wanting to buy the color that they have ben using. They often will say that they are used to them.

I always chuckle when they have to learn the newer controls that are not like the older ones they are used to.

I hate having to set up different tractors for some of the jobs our customers request that we do.

Many times when at different horsepower sizes and chassis weights tractors get to fat!

By this I mean they have to little horsepower to balance a front loader and still feel responsive to the operators. Traction is not a problem with these tractors and long as the balance is still kept but we get complaints of lack of power from the operators.

I perfer to have a structurally sound tractor that might be a little lighter and then add the weight to where it needs it to get the best overall results.

I think that price difference is what keeps some people away from the John Deeres, Not all JD are higher than comparable tractors, but some are and while I like John Deere, I won't pay more for one. I looked at JD before buying our last two tractors.

I really did not compare anything bigger than the M9540 though.

About two and a half years ago I started searching for a tractor in that size range. The 5093e had just came out and I was getting all worked up about getting one. The price our local dealer shot me for it was just under $50K. So I priced a kubota M96 and it was several thousand cheaper with similar options. After having the wind taken out of my sails on the JD I started searching Tractorhouse.com There I found a slightly used Kubota M95 with cab, AC, self leveling loader, radial tires, cast rear rims, QA bucket, 2 remotes, 32 forward and 32 reverse gears, hydraulic shuttle and just over 200 hours for $33K. I almost wet myself! It was still under warranty. It was at a dealer an hour away and after looking it over it was mine.
So far it has been an awesome tractor. I have used it for bush hogging, plowing snow, grading drive, removing brush with a grapple bucket, box blading, pallet forks and moving countless tons of dirt. I would buy it again in a heart beat. I has tremendous power and enough weight to get the job done without spinning out.
The only complaint that I have is the paint on the rims fades a little easy and the plastic cab roof does also.
