Getting pretty close to buying one. Hearing about any experiences you've had, good or bad, would be appreciated. Thx.

Might get a better response in the Kubota forum. Off the top of my head I know TripleR has a 8540 and a few others have 9540's, so maybe one of them will chime in. What specifically do you want to know?

I bought a new M8540 2.5 years ago and have put 360 hours on it. No problems the loader is amazing. If your going to be doing serious ground engaging I'd recommend the 12x12 trans I only have the 8x8 99% of the time it's not a problem at all. But a couple of additional gears would be nice to help try and balance my power and traction. I Can pull 3rd gear no problem while plowing but not 4th in virgin ground. If I had one more gear in between I could plow faster and turn the soil over better.

It does great on fuel typically I use around .5 - .75 gph general use logging, hydraulic splitter, loader work
~1 gph for brush hoging with a 7 footer

Plowing is considerably more I don't do enough to measure.

Cold starts at -10°F with no block heater like a champ.

The fuel filler neck location is a bear to fill with 5 gallon cans i bought a 300 gallon tank and transfer pump to fix it. All filters and drain plugs and battery are easily accessible unlike my buddies massey 5455.

Only other complaint thar i can think of would be the stupid pins and retainer clips that are used on the 3pt stabilizers. Try adjusting these at 0°F with heavy gloves on www.notgonnahappen.com

We bought our M8540 which is essentially the same as an M9540 in June 2010 and have had no issues with it. We've never checked fuel usage, but it doesn't seem excessive based on our other tractors. We got the 12/12 with same size tires that come standard on the M9540. We got two rear remotes and wish we had gotten the third. We pull a 10'6" Woods DS1260 rotary cutter and use a 10' drag scraper and Land Pride HR3584 box scraper.

We have been very happy with it.
