Tractor
Case IH 70a
I have narrowed down my search for a new tractor. Need something 60 to 70 hp. Tractor will mainly be used to rotary cut approximately 18 acres. Plan to run a 8 to 10 ft rotary cutter.

Which tractor would you recommend between a Kubota M7060 and Case IH 75a. Both would be cab tractors. My number one concern is reliability followed by price. I need something that is going to last 20 years+ and not have problems every year. Don稚 have much loader work so still up in the air if I will get a loader.

These are the only brands I am considering as the brands close by include John Deere, Case IH, Kubota, and Massey Ferguson. Heard bad things about John Deere E series and don稚 know much about Massey.

We have two Massey (383 and 275) both older models, but they have lasted through the years. If there had been a Massey dealer in our area, we would of considered a Massey. Instead we added a Kubota L3560HSTC to our farm.

I would recommend if funds allow to get a loader on whatever tractor you decide. I have no experience with NH, but I can tell you me Kubota (smaller than the M7060) has been a good tractor. Very pleased with the function and how it works for me. Long term use, only time will tell. The two MF, have lasted a long time and still being used even though the last 10 years they weren't taken care of.

There's a couple horror stories floating around this forum with people having trouble getting parts from Case. It's not the dealers fault I don't think, they just have a hard time getting parts from corporate. And that's with relatively new tractors. Personally, with a tractor and purchase that large, I'd have to go Kubota. Or a true New Holland.

When the engine went out in my old John Deere a couple years ago I did a lot of research into buying a new tractor. General consensus seems to be that Kubota is tops in reliability. Like someone said - Kubota is to reliability in the tractor world as Toyota is to reliability in the automobile world.

Price seems to depend on where you are located. I "built" my Kubota M7060 on line ($57,000) and then went to the nearest Kubota dealer to see what I could negotiate. Nada. Same price - refused to come down even a dollar even if I payed cash. But reading other posts on here from other parts of the country, their Kubota dealers were quite willing to negotiate and discount. Me, I just happened to luck out because I found a used unit for sale by a private party.

And me I'd go Case IH just because I grew up on IH and I just don't care for Kubota. That said my Kubota F series is the best mower I have bought.

I'd go Kubota.

I am a red guy all the way too, but in reality red and blue are the same thing and neither are IH or Ford, but something else.

I did look at the "A" series a few years back and went orange based on dealer location, price and features. No issues with the orange one :)

I bought the NH Workmaster 75 over the Kubota M7060. Cost was the main factor, $5K less. Another was NH uses DOC so no regen issues, same with the Farmall 75A. The third was ergonomics, the seat is more comfortable and I have more room to move around. Also the AC has more vents and they are in the roof, more cold air movement. So far it has been a great tractor but I don't have many hours. Have to mow tall pasture tomorrow so will see how it does.

One big difference between the Case and the NH is the loader. The Case loader looks weak. The Case L610 is rated at 1,878 lbs Non Self-Leveling. The NH 550LU is rated at 2425 lbs. The self leveling loader is even greater, 2143 lbs vs 3153 lbs. That seems to be a big difference for what is supposed to be identical machines.

Don't kid yourself. You have the same regen issues as the Kubota, you just use a different system. You still have to keep your rpms high to keep the exhaust hot enough so the catalyst can burn off the soot. As least that's what I've been reading on these forums from those who own tractors with DOC.

Still, that's a great tractor and I'm sure it will do everything you ask of it. Congratulations!

If you don't already have a loader then you would be stupid not to get one.

That's a pretty big tractor to mow 18acres. If that's all it's going to do.

Kubota has developed this reputation for reliability based on their older tractors. We'll see how the newer models hold up as they move into a mid-size tractor market and cater to farmers with bigger gear.

You could get a L6060 for the same money, and it would pull the same batwing, plus be a touch more maneuverable. 18 acres isn't a lot to mow, I could likely do it in day pulling a 6ft hog with my L3560. Once the initial cut is done, routine maintenance would certainly take me less than a day.

The grand L cab is more refined than the Mxx60 cab, it has more vents, and they're in the headliner.
