Kubota M6060
Newbie here with my first ever tractor purchase:
So i just found out that the Kubota M6060 I want to buy has been sitting on the lot for 3.8 years. I was told it was a year and a half sitting but found out from my local dealer that it has been at competitors lot for almost 4 years. My local dealer just got the same tractor in but with cast wheels negotiated down to $35k and other dealer is offering $33k for the M6060. I遏・ a bit concerned about the age of the unit. What are your thoughts...please help!

Is it 2wd or 4wd? Cab? Anything with it (FEL, etc.)? Tires (AG, R4, turf)?

What do you plan to use it for? Just trying to give others an idea if it is even the right tractor for your needs.

It is 4wd, no cab (too expensive), AG tires. With loader quick connect, 2 remotes. Use: to start i will be using it to get about 10 of my 13 acres to be AG use, hay, wheat, and mowing. Some time in the near future within 12 months raise a few cattle about 4-6 and then to plow and work up to 80 acres. Need to get the house done first then off to work the 80 acres. It seems like a common theme to get a bigger than you need tractor. I was initially looking at an MX 45 hp but i dont think it will have the power to plow even 40 Acres. So I decided to be safe and go with the M6060. Thoughts? Thank you for your help.

I wouldn't be afraid of the tractor if it has under 2hrs on it (for Deere Dude's concerns), but I'd sure negotiate the price very hard.
I was in a similar situation with my tractor, supposedly Kubota "dropped off" 2 M9540's open station tractors at my dealer and without the cab they just sat for a long time. We negotiated a good price but I was still "wavering" on the deal, I asked the salesman (that I had dealt with for years) to "throw in" 2 more rear remotes, 3rd function on the loader, block heater and a set of forks along with a new battery and oil change. He didn't even blink and I just hit 1000 hrs last month with no problems. There may be an emissions (or lack there of) advantage also.

I'd think they'd be very motivated to see it move. If the cheaper older one doesn't have cast centers, the price difference isn't even $2000. Plus, it sounds like the one with cast centers is now local? That has benefits too. Also, are they the same transmission? I'd want to see the old one at under $30k to really start thinking personally. I bet a couple stops into the dealer with a checkbook might convince them.

Did the older one sit outside all that time? I heard a story from my JD dealer when I was shopping and they ordered a skid steer from a dealer in TX that had sat over a year outside and the tracks did not last as long since they dry rotted from sitting outdoor for so long. 3 years is a long time to have no weather protection, not saying some of us don’t do it, but it should be a used machine price by that point. Also decide based upon which dealer is going to do better service for you long term. That’s worth a lot of money just not having the headache of dealing with someone that won’t take care of issues.

You should be able to buy a 4 year old new tractor at a very large discount.

Kubota offers aged inventory pricing incentives to dealers to move aged equipment. Moreover, someone, probably the dealer in this case, is carrying the financing on this tractor.

Most likely, the dealer(s) that held this tractor did so in order to try to make additional profit prior to later model price increases but over-played their hand(s).

Inspect tires, paint and decals for UV damage.

Also be advised, that running engineering changes, improvements, etc., subsequent to the build date will not be incorporated into this unit.

Did the list price change in the last 4 years? The older mod l should be discounted off the original 2013/2014 price not the 2018 list price. Assuming it changed during this time.

The battery at a minimum should be replaced and I would be concerned about the amount of condensate that could have been accumulating in the fuel tank during this time (bacteria growth).

Did any parts have major updates during this time period to remedy a problem found in the field? The newer tractor might be more robust if this is true.

Just a few items to consider.

It pays to shop around. I just ordered a M7060 from a dealer 70 minutes from me in another state because he is $4,000 less than the dealer 45 minutes from me. I have friends who have dealt with both dealers and each dealer has a great reputation. Prices can vary greatly. It's better to proceed slowly and let this dealer think he might lose you if he doesn't work with you more because of the age of this tractor. I agree with Rustyiron and wouldn't be afraid of the tractor if the price was right, otherwise I would price a new M6060 with everything you want on it.
