In my search for an M5040, I've had a few dealers tell me that Kubota is getting rid of the M5040 (one even said he couldn't order it anymore), and replacing it with the M5140.
I went by the Kubota dealer today looking at m7040's and saw the m5140 for the 1st time. I got home and did a search on it. Haven't really come up with much... My question is whether they are going to be replacing all the m40 series?.. If so, I'll hold off and wait for a m7140... I'll be placing a call to the dealer when they reopen after the new year break. In the mean time if anyone has any additional info about this, a reply would be greatly appreciated.
For the M5140, they've eliminated the draft control and gone to a smaller cubic inch engine (still 50hp, though). It's true that dealers can no longer get the M5040, and it's been that way for several months.
The story I got in mid December was that the M5140 will share the same engine as the MX5100.
Horsepower is about the same but I was told the 149ci 5140 engine has less torque than the 186ci 5040 engine.
I was also told I could buy the 5140 about $300 cheaper than the M5040.
My dealer did not have a 5040 in stock, but had no trouble finding one for a dealer transfer. I was told there were quite a few still in the inventory around here. Might be different in California.
