Kubota M4700 short in wiring harness

I have discovered I have a short in my wiring harness underneat the dash on the left side. I have voltage to the starter and can slap on the left side of the dash and the key will allow the tractor to start.(holding the key in pre heat mode and banging on the left side will allow the panel to light up in preheat mode, then start...otherwise nothing...dead...battery good, lights come on very bright
How do I get to the wiring harness under the dash. Do I have to remove the steering wheel the pull the cover out of the way. I obviously see the outside bolts that will have to be removed.

I have a parts list for the M4700 - yes it looks like the steering wheel has to come off to lift the panel board. There may not be much slack in the switch wires - may need to unplug/disconnect as you lift the board. Hope someone with actual M4700/M4900/M5400 or M5700 experience chimes in. I've seen some wires rubbing on sharp metal edges near the main switch on models I've worked on - haven't worked on one of these. Good luck, hope you find the problem.

Actually you are describing a open wire or a lose connection.
A short would normally blow fuse or some thing would come on while switch is off.

But I think you will find a plug loose on the switch or some thing like that or even a bad ignition switch.

As a follow up to my post. I was able to get a tractor mechanic to come to my house. He pulled the panel back far enough to get to the wiring harness(without pulling the steering wheel) and found a rat's nest and many chewed wired. It is amazing that it even would run or start. He repaired all the wires and replaced a relay and it seems that all is well. It is buttoned up and running and staring fine so far.
