Kubota L48

Hello

I just got my first Kubota Tractor. I have a small Case DX33 but wanted a backhoe. I was impressed with the Kubota TLB series and was looking for an L45 when I found a clean L48 not too far from where I live. So far I am impressed with the quality and the concept. I have some small projects to do around the house. It came with a 16" and 24" bucket. I would like to get a 10" or 12" bucket. What are my options other then the Kubota Dealer?

Welcome to TBN.Does your backhoe have a quick attach bucket system?I am just curious but either way you could either make the bucket or have it made.Kubota does want a high price for this kind of stuff.A quick attach for my L45 is around 1100 dollars and a 30 inch bucket is about 1000 dollars.The ears to convert my pin on bucket to quick attach are about 250 dollars.

The quick attach is quite nice. However, you are looking at megabucks to get it installed and get the buckets you want. It probably makes more sense to just buy the smaller bucket if you don't plan on changing it out very often. There may be something aftermarket or used that would realize a significant savings vs. new. Other guys on here would know more about that.

Or, perhaps you could sell your existing buckets and offset the price of the QA a bit.

Very fortunately, my used L48 came with three QA buckets when it was purchased.

In my opinion the quick attach is only feasible if you are doing a lot of bucket changing.I have contemplated making a quick attach for my L45 but haven't got around to it yet.Maybe some day.

Since you already have a 16" bucket, you may find that a 12" bucket is not that useful.

I know mine packed with clay every chance it got and was difficult to empty. The final straw was when I put the hydraulic thumb on and found that the 12" bucket was not wide enough to keep the pivots points for the thumb out of the dirt.

Try using the 16" for a while before you put too much $$$ or effort into the 12".

I have a L45 with quick attach. I use my 18" bucket for everything including trenching. Similar to curlydave, my 10" bucket just filled with dirt/clay. Plus I have a hydraulic thumb that fits the 18" perfectly. I also let the dealer convince me I needed a 30" that I have never used.

When I bought my backhoe I planned eventually to get a second bucket, but after using the 16" I never really wanted anything else except every once in a while I could use a ripper, but not often enough to make it worth buying one.

I'll chime in on the side of using what you have for a while to see if you still want something else. My BH bucket is 24". Trenching at my place always runs into rocks so the ditch ends up wide anyway. Back-filling takes the same time. And 24" gives working room for cementing pipe joints etc.

Will a Kubota KX-61 Bucket work on the L48?
