The L48 I have is a 2001 with about 1150 hours it seems to be stuck in low. It runs fine the bucket and back hole works fine drives good, but it will not go into the med range or high. I replaced the oil about 60 hours ago as well as the filters. The leaver seems not to have any resistance when moving forward or aft, so I thought a rod end or something came disconnected nothing. Have any of you had this problem and if so is it fixable by a back yard mechanic, or bring it in to the shop type problem?

no help here but to say my L45 and my B26 both have a lot of resistance when changing speeds. so I agree there is something disconnected or broke on the shifter.

The H-M-N- L selector lever linkage below the seat platform is simple to work on. There is a spring plunger for the neutral switch that can get dry and stiff. Try spraying the area with oil/lubricant/penetrant - it may free up without taking it apart. On my L48, the range shifter moves better with the engine is idling, HST pedal at neutral, clutch pedal up (engaged, so charge pump is turning and HST is rolling in neutral). Take care, Dick B

If the lever is moving with no resistance then see if it is moving the lever going into the transmission. If it is then it would be internal.

Sorry, my post should have offered a possible external reason for no lever resistance. One of the attached diagrams from the K website shows the shifter lever. Its possible one of the 050 screws is broken or gone, or maybe pins 020 and 030 have come out. The other diagram shows a range switch 010 that goes into a hole on the lever (also part 010). The problem could be there - or inside as art says. If its something inside it might be accessible after taking off the seat platform and 3pt hitch upper assembly to have a look for something out of position in there. It shouldn't be necessary to split the tractor - which is a big job on an L48 because of the outer frame. related story here.

I would like to thank those who responded to this problem and the page that showed the linkage it was as I first suspected a linkage problem and I was able to reset the pin and I now have a working transmission. I do have some parts that need to be replace in the future and I believe if it holds for the summer I will put it in the shop in the fall. Once again thanks to all.
