Hello everyone

I was mowing grass, and after turning a corner and transmission would only go in reverse. I was using cruise control, and it immediately stopped. I replaced the transmission at 500 hours and it now has 1000 hrs.

The dealer replaced a valve and a potentiometer. Neither worked They gave up trying to fix it, and sent me to another dealer and sent me a bill for 2000

The second dealer replaced the transmission logic board. This didnt work either. This cost another 1500

Does anyone have a idea what they should do next?

One thing worth mentioning is that i was mowing with the cruise lever on, and coming to the end of the row, i pushed the foot pedal down instead of pulling back on the cruse lever. This confused the computer or screwed up the linkage i think. My tractor is in the dealer for 3 or 4 months now. Thanks pete degan.

So... I would probably not be paying that $2k bill for “giving up”. Time to start burning the phone lines up. I would be to try and make sure a dealer that “gives up” on fixing winds up “giving up” their dealership rights to that product.

It sounds like the dealers have parts replacers rather than mechanics. Competent mechanics troubleshoot things. Parts replacers just keep changing out parts without really knowing what the root cause is & sending you a bill.

99% sure the Lxx40s HSTs have a computer controlled HST like the Lxx60 HSTs. If its computer controlled the pedal & cruise control are just switches & potentiometers. There are no linkages.

While it doesn't seem to have any relationship to your current problem, why was the transmission replaced at 500 hrs? I'm assuming the other items mentioned in the post are from the last few months.

It's hard to believe the two Kubota dealerships did not have the ability to consult with Kubota engineering to resolve the problem. The idea of throwing parts at the tractor in a futile attempt to fix it is BS. Did they give you your old "good" parts back at least? I would have at least wanted them back in the event they are ever needed. could be resold as used or perhaps sold to a tractor used parts dealer, such as Wenger's (PA).

Can you clarify which model version you have? There are L3940-1, -2, -3. I'm not certain they are different with respect to your problem, but it is worth at least noting in the event it does.

Suggest contacting your local Kubota Zone representative, but I believe this will need the cooperation of the dealer to do so. Spending $3,500 and having no results is outrageous. Before contacting anyone for help, it's best to have your facts written down in a chronological order. The more concise the information, the better. It's often very difficult for the other person on the other end to understand months worth of information when it is given in a random order. It becomes worse when there is frustration behind the statements.

Is the dealership holding your tractor hostage for you to pay a bill for something they cannot fix?

I would make a call to Kubota and if they didn't intervene to a law firm.

This is the second hydro Kubota thread I've read today regarding no forward movement. The other only has a 100 hours and won't go in either direction. When I go shopping for a new tractor I know which one I won't be considering.

So you found 2 tractors out of thousands that had problems. I guess you’ll be building your own tractor since that kind of failure rate rules them all out.

So what was the ultimate outcome of the problem?.. I hope it's fixed by now.

There are two more sides to this story, and the truth somewhere else.

I would press forward and it would go backward or not move at all. They replaced servo value. In this case it fixed the problem.
