I have a chance to buy a 1998 Kubota L3750 in pretty nice shape. The tractor was owned by a cemetery for years. It is a 4x4 Hydro with around 4,000 hours. Everything works fine, PTO, 3 point, shifts fine, 4x4 works fine with no noise. New seat was put on the tractor - doesn't appear to need anything.

Price is $4,300. What do you guys think?

Thanks for ther help.

I am sorry - 1988, not 1998. Typo.

Any advice would be great. I know the legend of the Kubota L3 series is good after reading the posts from before. I do think the price of $4300 is very good considering it is in very good shape and the 4X4 model. I would just like some second opinions to make sure of it.

Thanks

Jon

I have to agree that it appears to be a good buy. I'd probably get it if I were looking. Sure there are tractors out there in the same HP range with less hours, but at much more money. The tractor itself will last a life time with proper maintenance, so in that light, those hours are not really that many. I imagine if you pass it up, you might not find a good 35-40 HP class tractor in good shape for that price again easily, especially a 4 X 4 Hydro. In other words, GET IT!!

I just did a search for Kubota L3750 and found a rough looking one in Florida, not sure about hours, but it's isted at $7500.

Hi - I think your concern about 4k hours is justified. If you consider an hour equivalent to 50 miles of service of a car or truck, 4000 hours is like 200k miles. That's a fair amount of wear on the moving parts so its repair needs may be on the increase at this point. It would be good to verify the big ticket items are in good shape - hydraulic pumps, front gearbox/axles, 2-stage clutch. Is there a loader?

Thanks for the reply on the hours. I guess that opens up a whole new debate. Is 4,000 hours on a diesel tractor really that high?

I only ask because I have a John Deere 5200 with 6000 hours and it hasn't had an ounce of problems. On a 5 cylinder diesel like the Kubota L3750 I'm not sure if 4000 hours really equates to your typical car with 200K miles on it.

I would certainly like to hear some more opinions on this topic. Obviously, 4000 hours with good maintenance will always trump 4,000 hours of abuse and poor maintenance, but I would like to hear from other tractor owners as to the hours they have or have experienced with other tractors.

Thanks,

Jon

Knightracing: 4000 hours is indeed quite a few, but the engine, transmission and gears are designed to go much longer. The $4300 price you quoted takes into account those hours. You will no doubt have to correct a maintenance issue or another at any given time, but still seems like a good deal if it has had proper maintenance. Many neglected tractors sitting around owner's lots all over the country with far, far fewer hours would probably cause more maintenance headaches than a properly maintained one with high hours. 10,000 is probably a good number to consider "used up: but 4000 is perhaps a number to consider approachment of mid life for that tractor. As I mentioned earlier, I'd buy it if the seller could convince me it has been maintained as well or better than intended by the manufacturer
