2016 Massey 1734e
I was at our local home and garden show in Fort Wayne this past weekend and a local Kubota dealer had some of the models on display. They had an L3560, which I had not seen in person before. I did not realize how much larger it is than some of the other tractors in the 35hp range. Even next to the 3901 which is the same size as my Massey 1734, it looked massive. I was already thinking about moving up in size from the 1734 but with a tractor the size of the L3560 I think would opt for more HP.

I went with the L3560 to replace my L3301, which shares the same frame as the L3901. I find the pucker factor very high on the L3301 vs the L3560. I've never even had the PTO cover off the L3301. Weight=work done with anything other than PTO tasks. I was often spinning tires with the L3301.

I would have loved to have a L6060. I can't afford one. The L3560 got me the weight I was missing, the cab I wanted, and solved several issues I have with the standard L ergos.

Open station MF1734 = 2,700 pounds bare tractor.
Open station 'Standard L' L2501/3301/3901 = 2,700 pounds bare tractor.
Open station L3560 = 3,700 pounds bare tractor. (Cab 600+ pounds ??)

Weight = Capability for ground engagement work plus tractor stability/safety.

The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.

Many who order a cab equipped L3560 omit having the rear tires loaded.

My L3560 is open station, air inflated R4 tires. I have never wanted more power to operate my assortment of heavy implements. L3560 is my third tractor, second new Kubota, so I felt pretty qualified by experience ordering it. My land in Florida is flat and snow is not a factor. The three cylinder L3560 engine is quiet.

The open station L3560 is almost identical in size to the Ford 8N tractor series which inaugurated modern light tractors on the farm in 1939. Very easy to mount Three Point Hitch implements.

The 'Grand L' HST/PLUS transmission is fabulous. The half-range steps may be equivalent to 8-horsepower in a Standard L. HST/PLUS has spoiled me.

The only power intensive PTO application I have is operating a 60" Land Pride RCR2660 commercial grade Rotary Cutter weighing just light of 1,000 pounds. L3560 powers this heavy cutter through Florida jungle fine with its two HST/MED steps.

I got the tires loaded. I feel the extra weight down low will help on my land, which is one side of a valley, and can be fairly steep. Steep enough I wasn't comfortable taking the L3301 anywhere.

The grand L's are quite a bit bigger than the standard kubotas.

The L3560 is 4" wider than L3301.

Five heavier Grand Ls are 10" wider than L3301.

Cab models, of course, are more bulbous.

Beautiful property Jeff.

I recently measured the widths of an L3560 and an L4060, both with R4’s, and they were about the same width at 70-71 inches. It seems the dealers set the rear tires to match the width of the front buckets. The L4060 is a few inches longer. In practicality, they’re about the same size, despite the L4060/4760 being on a larger chassis. About 250lbs more weight for the 40+hp models.

My open station L3560 with R4 tires has an outside to outside rear tire measurement of 62" with front/rear tire centers aligned. Rear wheel/tire spreads on L3560 are adjustable for width with both R1 and R4 tires, so variation will be found. Front wheel/tire spreads on 4-WD L3560s are not adjustable.

Default 4-WD tire spread normally has center of rear tires aligned with center of front tires so a moldboard plow can be pulled. Rears wheels can be set wider but then cannot follow front wheels in a plow furrow.

2-WD Grand Ls, rare birds, have front and rear adjustable wheel/tire spreads. Useful for some row crop applications on flat ground but traction limited.

It seems dealers set the rear tires to match the width of the front buckets.

This makes sense for stability IF pulling a moldboard plow to invert soil is ruled out.

Beautiful property Jeff.

Thank you.

Property used to graze cattle. Cattle kept the jungle in check.

Property has been a multi-family residential property for fifteen years. Keeping the jungle from taking over open spaces requires many pleasant tractor hours including hundreds of trips carrying jungle debris to a burn pit. The soil is fairly fertile for Florida and jungle grows twelve months of the year.
