Kubota L3240
I have a L3240, both detents on the FEL control valve are hard to engage. The float detent is usable but the dump detent is so hard I need to use both hands.
Can this be adjusted?

Most likely just crud, dirt, moisture on the caps of each spool, located on the bottom of the valve.

It can be as simple as taking the caps off, clean everything, lubricate and reassemble. Just be aware that there are some balls under pressure that can pop out and never be found again. It depends on the design of the detent.

Didn't know you had a float on the dump circuit!

Not float but the regen feature also uses a detent function so the operator knows if he is using regen or not.

Agree its probably just crud.

And yep.....detent on dump is just regen vs non-regen. Some kubota valves have it, others dont. Just depends on the tractor/loader

Yes, its weird having a detent on the curl function. I need the non-regen position to operate the single acting angle cylinders on my snow plow. I pulled the cap off today, and didn't see what I was expecting. I was expecting the spool to have a hole through it with a ball on each side and a spring in the middle. The spool is smooth, I can see the balls still in position inside the cap but I don't know how this works. I haven't taken the cap apart yet.
I'm sure the problem is in the cap as the spool and inside of the cap are spotless, well greased with no dirt or rust. Control handle moves freely now.
Can someone tell me what I'll find when I remove the snap ring and take the cap apart. I'm assuming there is a spring somewhere but I can't figure out where or what kind of spring it will be. I'd like to know what I'll be looking for when it flies across the shop :) And how does this work? The spool is smooth, there isn't a groove for the balls to catch in?
A drawing would be great.
Thanks for any help!

I took the detent assembly apart and all parts were completely clean with no rust or dirt.
I figured out why it's so hard to operate.
Two reasons:
1)The detent spring looks like a valve spring out of my Chevy!!!
2)The engagement point that the detent balls contact is pretty much 90 degrees. If it were less of an angle, like a ramp, the balls would recede much easier.

I'm going to get a lighter spring tomorrow and see how much that helps.

I changed the spring last night. I found a spring that was the same size and cut it about 1/4" shorter. Wow, what a difference, I still have a definite stopping point for the regen function but I can easily overcome the detent for when I'm using my snow plow or if I need full power on my grapple.
This fix turned out to be really easy, the cap comes off easily and there are no parts to go flying. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't remove the tire for access. I removed it for access because I have a skid plate and I didn't want to lose any parts trying to awkwardly reach in there but there isn't any to lose. That's true for the rear most cap, the front cap is for the float position and I believe it does have parts to lose, I didn't take it apart.
The spring assembly is a bit challenging. I used two pair of vice grips to compress the spring enough to remove the balls. Turned out that worked well and it went back together the same way.

Well worth the effort. I have a diverter valve and I use a grapple a lot and it wont close with any power in the regen position and the snow plow wont angle to the right. Now both are easy and efficient to operate.

Nice!

Glad it was an easy fix.

Thanks for updating the thread as well.
