I just purchased an L3130 GST. The operators manual says to "reduce engine speed to low idle before shifting the shuttle shift lever." This sounds a little cumbersome. I ran the machine today between 1800 and 2100 RPM using the clutchless shuttle to change directions and things seemed to work OK. If what the manual says is really what you need to do, then you have to lower the rpm to a "low idle" with the throttle control on the steering column, then use the foot throttle to raise the throttle while in operation, then use the foot throttle to reduce RPM, then make the clutchless shuttle shift. Then, if I need to use my dual brakes I have to shift the throttle control on the steering column back up to operating speed since I don't have a third leg.

My bottom line question is: Is there a problem changing direction using the clutchless shuttle shift when running at moderate to high RPM, even though the operators manual says to do it at low idle?

Thanks

I must be missing something. Why use the foot throttle at all, an option on a lot of tractors, why not control speed with just the column control? Does it really take 2 feet to operate your brakes, or aren't the pedals tied together? There must be a reason why the op's manual says to lower speed when shifting.

If the manual say to reduce rpm, it's easier to do it with the foot throttle as opposed to the throttle on the column. My brakes aren't tied together and I'm not using two feet to dual brake. I don't have an IH cub (anymore). Imagine running at 2200 RPM and everytime I want to clutchless shift I have to reduce the RPM using the column throttle.

I have to agree with normde2001 as I don't think the manufacturer would put the instruction in your operator's manual if there wasn't a valid reason for following them. However it still might be a good question to bring up with your local dealer.

Makes a guy really appreciate his HST. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

A traditional shuttle is for changing direction, basically they don't want you to be going fast and put high loads on the clutches in the tranny.

You don't need to reduce rpm for clutchless shifts of the normal gears.

So say you're in 2rd taking digs at a pile of gravel using foot throttle. You drive in with good engine rpm getting a scoop. As you load up you let off the throttle and pull the shuttle into reverse before the tractor stalls.

After you change direction you're on the throttle again speeding away from the pile. You turn, let off the throttle, throw the shuttle to forward and get back on the throttle and start bumping up through the gears to what transport speed you want.

That's how it works on a full size tractor anyways.

Thanks, This is the first non-manual tractor I've owned.

Your discription on how to work the machine was good.

Same feeling here!

I don't have a Kubota but on my collar shift JD 990 you can grind gears if your not careful about engine speed and shifting on the go under load. If I reduce engine speed then it shifts like my syncro did. I mainly stop when changing gears as a habbit and it may reduce wear on my particular machine. I know yours it a syncro shuttle but I thought I would add this in anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
