1949 Ford 8N
Hey Guys and Gals....first post here.

I have an old '49 Ford 8N that I have been using to drag my driveway. The hydraulics have gotten weak and I need to rebuild the system to be able to use it.

But a friend of mine told me about an '08 Kubota L2800 that belongs to a widow who has decided to sell it. It is 4x4 and has a little over 400 hrs.
Comes with a FEL, brush hog, and box blade.

I went to look at it this morning. She's asking $11K for it, but I'm pretty sure I can get it for $10K.

The tractor has always been barn kept and never left out in the elements...even for one night. It's somewhat dusty...but is obviously in great shape
and would look new with a clean up at the car wash.

The guy that told me about the tractor said that it was a hydrostat...but it doesn't have the rocker pedal. It has a 4 speed gear shift, then a lever on the left that has Low, High, and Reverse. So it has 8 speed forward and 4 speed reverse.

Would this be a "good deal" or is it just an average deal at $10K being it's 5 years old...?

I have a L3400 DT, which is same tractor "just about". From what your describing IMO its a good deal not a great deal. Some of those have/had problems with jerky three point hitches . If your gonna buy it try 3 pt w/BH mounted on back see if it works rite or you can live with it. If it were me and I needed a tractor that size I'd buy it. If you get it post pics of tractor and equipment when you can.

Thought some pic's might motivate you ! ;)

That's a good deal at $11,000,if you can get for less buy it.We just paid $9500 for a 2000 L3000DT with 1100 hrs.and thought that was a fair deal.

It's somewhat dusty...but is obviously in great shape and would look new with a clean up at the car wash.

If you buy it, don't worry about the car wash. Change the engine oil and hydraulic oil, all filters, and grease the FEL, three point hitch and any chassis zerks right off. About $500 service at a Kubota dealer.

Will likely need to replace the battery when cold weather arrives. Sitting is death to batteries.

Four hundred hours is just broken in on a WELL MAINTAINED diesel tractor.

I run a L3200 with all the implements you mentioned. I feel 10K would be a steal.

That's a good deal, particularly with the implements. I'd make sure it's all in good working order... nothing about the engine, tranny, hydraulics, loader, etc. that might give trouble. If it's good to go, it should make a nice setup for you.

I just bought a L2800 I think 2008 or 9 with 261 hours with a FEL, Armstrong Box Blade and Howse shredder for 11,000 delivered to my place (about 100 miles). It's in good shape but had been kept outside. I've had to replace the battery, drive shaft for the shredder and the seatbelt. It had just been serviced before I got it. It does not have hydrostatic tranny. It's been really good so far. Haven't tried the box blade yet, just the shredder and FEL. I've been mostly moving old dead branches into piles and shredding areas as I clear. I've knocked down some small trees. I got a bucket spade and am digging out cactus and it works like a charm. Don't think it could dig out much more than that but would work for planting stuff in our sandy soil. Best toy i've ever bought.

Thanks for all the replies. The friend that told me about the tractor is very honest and I'd trust anything he told me. He took me out to see the tractor...as he does most of the farm work for the widow lady since her husband died.

He told me this morning that he had the Kubota dealership come pick the tractor up about 5 months ago and do a complete service/check up and they told him there wasn't a thing wrong with the tractor....that it was in perfect shape. He also said that it probably doesn't have 3 hours on it since the service.

I played around with the tractor a few minutes with a dirt pile this morning while my friend was feeding the lady's horses. It had the brush hog attached, and it did seem a little jerky when I raised it up and down....but not too severe to me. The FEL seemed to work great...but I haven't messed with one in over 10 years, so it was somewhat difficult for me to get a full bucket of dirt :) .

I may go talk to her tomorrow and offer her $9500 and see what she says. I am pretty certain it can be bought for $10K...but 9500 sounds even better.

Thanks again for all the help...!

Ted
