Looking for some help/advice. Looking to buy my first tractor. Have 5 acres of wooded land..maine. Planning on doing landscaping..burying underground electrical up driveway, septic work, various other jobs....later snow removal and maintenance.

Im looking at Kubota L2501L HST and Mahindra 1526 HST. Both w/loader and backhoe attachment. I've gotten quotes for both. (Kubota approx. 27500, and Mahindra approx. 24500) I was thinking they were similar tractors and comparable in nature. But looking for advice/experience on tractors themselves, but also pricing and is the 3000 difference justified?

thanks for any help.

The price on the Kubota sounds very high! They have awesome rebates going on right now. And you can get 0% financing. When did you get your quote?

You should easily be able to get the Kubota for $25,000 or less. I think closer to $23,000 is possible. Where are you located?

Kubota L2501 has a 100 cubic inch engine.

Mahindra 1526 has a 80 cubic inch engine.

A significant difference.

Tractor weights are close. Kubota just a tad heavier.

Regardless of your choice you will probably want a toothbar bucket attachment for digging. Piranha gets top reviews here on T-B-N for digging.

You will probably also want a Ratchet Rake bucket attachment for tearing out brush, piling debris, minor grading and small garden soil preparation.

You will likely want a shear-bolt protected Three Point Hitch Subsoiler for loosening Maine rocky soil and planting electrical underground.

Did you notice that the OP is getting a backhoe? I got a quote for a 2501 HST for 19,000. I'd think 27 is high, but 25 might be possible.

Weight defines what a tractor can do, HP defines how fast.

I like my L3200, but am upgrading to a cabbed machine. The L2501 is the same machine except they monkeyed with the engine to get it under the 25hp EPA emissions cutoff. I hear it punches above its rating though.

I got a backhoe quoted a year ago for $7k I think. I'm asking $18.5k on mine with a 320ish hours loader, TNT & 3 hydraulic spools. I'm guessing it should be about the same value as a new L2501 with the extra hydraulics. Your Kubota quote seems high to me.

Personally I'm partial to Kubota's proven reliability & support. Heard of a number of people with Mahindra issues where Mahindra corporate didn't support their machines or dealers well.

I have a Max28, same engine as the 1526. Motor is ok but not a torque monster. I find Kubota motors fairly torquey. Both prices seem kinda high, especially the Bota, at least $1,000.

Thanks guys for the input. Extremely helpful..I think one of issues with pricing is there is not as many tractor dealers in rural Maine.. So competitive pricing is limited. It sounds like most of you would go with kubota if I could get better pricing... The other issue when comparing the two Warranty programs.. It appears mahindras warrant is for a much longer period of time than kubota...as with all warranties tho... There are limitations to coverage...I've since let salesman know 25000 was my max budget so I'm waiting to here.. Since I'm not financing they should be able to shave a bit more off price...

I believe that the machines are fairly equal, if you can get both to where the costs are acceptable, I would go with the one that is the most comfortable for you to sit in the seat and operate. A lot of people figure it doesn't matter that much and you get use to things, and you do, but why when there is a machine that may fit you from the get go.

Good luck.

Thank brian... im gonna go test them both. I think ive gotten the price as low as I can...still a 2000 difference in price...I want to see which one is best for me as far as comfort and ease of use.
