Hey guys, a friend of mine of considering starting a small veggie growing operation. I'm helping him think of some options for equipment to get started. He doesn't want to start out way in debt, so I'm trying to keep my recommendations pretty budget-minded.

He's interested in a 2-wheel tractor, which I agree is a great tool, but I'm trying to convince him that a CUT with ag tires and a hydrostatic transmission would be a better and more versatile option. I like the idea of the 2501 and ck2610 because they're relatively inexpensive, and don't have the tier 4 stuff, but they are on a larger frame than you'd usually get with 25 HP. I think the increased wheel spacing, larger tires with more clearance, and bigger loader makes these models more attractive for what he wants do.

I've called one Kubota dealership and one Kioti dealership for quotes. It looks like without a loader, the Kubota is $1200 more, and with a loader it's about $3500 more. Kubota does seem to have better financing offers right now.

I'm wondering if anyone has done any comparisons between these two, and also if there's any other similar models from other manufacturers that would be worth a look.

Thanks!

I dont own either of these tractors but have demo'ed an L2501 and test drove a 2610. I only have 5 acres but have found that the 2501 is cheaper than a B2650 with incentives and the added discounts when buying implements. I pulled a 5' brush cutter through some really tall overgrown stuff and it didnt bog down at all. I think with both the 2610 and 2510 you're looking at a detuned engine that is more capable than what is on paper.

I was quoted around $17500 to 18000 for the L2501 w SSQA loader. Once you add in implements you can then take another $1500 off. A B2650 has a $500 implement discount and that is it (0% finance deal).

The 2610 is about $16500 for tractor w loader but there are no discounts for implements as far as I know so that may narrow that price difference a bit. I can get a 2610 w loader, RC, BB and forks for under 20K with tax included. That is a cash deal however as the finance price jumps up with Kioti. A cash deal with Kubota is maybe a $500 difference.

The one thing I didnt like about the 2501 was the loader joystick is loader mounted and I found it was difficult to enter and exit on the right side of the tractor. Not a deal breaker. The 2610 has a fender mounted joystick. It also does not have a treadle pedal if my memory serves me right whereas the Kubota does. Not a pro or a con but just different.

I like both of these dealers locally so that hasnt helped narrow the decision.

I have looked at Deere but the 2025 and 2032R are smaller in frame than a 2501. The 2032 was over 20k for tractor and loader so thats out of my price range. I think their comparable model is the 3032. Mahindra has a 1526 that I think is comparable in frame and in price. Its about $17800 cash for tractor + loader. They have the smaller Max 26XL which goes for about $16500 cash.

Massey makes a 1726 but I have not looked at that yet.

If the dealer sells a Kubota tractor with three Land Pride and/or Kubota implements Kubota marketing throws a significant amount of promo money the dealer's way this summer. Most buyers should be able to negotiate $750 or more off three implements, when purchased with a tractor.

U.S. is one of the few world markets where tractor sales are growing.

A note on financing. We all know '0' interest is not really no cost financing.

However, last months CPI core inflation number was 1.7% year over year. Over five years that is a potential 8.5% inflation debt reduction. Makes '0%' pretty attractive in inflation adjusted terms.

(Inflation could increase or decrease over five year loan term.)
