I noticed today that the front wheels were not pulling real well. The rear tires would spin when bogged down by the implement but the front ones would not. I raised the front end with the loader and the do spin they just do not have much power when on the ground. In the past the front would spin also. I checked the parts manual and it only looks like a driveshaft and gear set up front. Is there any easy way to check this before I start pulling apart the differential? I am going to have to get the tractor to my garage to work on it and it is still out at my place.

I am just starting to tear into this. I pulled the cover of the pinion shaft that comes out of the front axle. When I turn the front wheels the pinion shaft turns. I am able to stop the pinion shaft with my hand and still spin the front wheels. I do not hear anything but I believe something to be stripped in the front axle. I am about to pull the entire front axle off of the tractor. Is this the easiest way to tear it down? I know I can pull each axle off of the side. I think I am going to end up in the center of the axle with the gears. I am going to start in about an hour. If there is an easier way please let me know. Thanks
I think I found the problem. It looks like I lost a bearing in the right bevel gear housing. This caused the gears to wobble and bust the bevel gear housing. A new case is 275 and a new gear is 270. I think that price is just for one gear and I am going to need 2 of them. Plus a few seals. This looks like about 1000 in parts. I may be able to weld up the hole in the case but I think 1000 is too much for a few gears and bearing. I am going to find out how many gears you get for that 270. If it is one no way I am going to repair this.

The gears look pretty hammered. Would you say there was a loose bolt/gasket failure at the top of the gear case where the face is rusty there? Looks like some dirt or something got into the case to wear the bearing.
Have you tried looking for a used setup? A complete bevel gear housing might be cheaper, if you can check it out for soundness before buying. There should be a bunch of 245s around with good housings, at least.

I have been checking all day for the parts. I think I found a case. The gears are 550 for a new set. I am going to take these to a machine shop and see if they can make them work. If not I will try to find a used set of gears. I am not sure how these failed. The gasket looked solid. I think a bearing failed and I drove it to long after it happened.
