Kubota L245DT Auxiliary Pump for FEL ?

I have a Kubota L245dt ( SERIAL # l245DT-54980) That has an after market Front End Loader (FEL) on it. The FEL presently runs off the hydraulic pump with the 3pt hitch. That system is fast enough and strong enough, but using it that way causes the pump to wear out too fast, and they are expensive.

SO, I am looking for an alternative way to run the FEL. There is a splined shaft coming out the front of the motor (about 1 inch in diameter and with about 18-20 splines), can a hydraulic pump be added there,

OR is there a 12volt electric over hydraulic system that would work? That seems like a pretty logical solution / it was suggested by a friend who ran dozers most of his life and various snow plows, etc.

OR does anyone have any other ideas???

You could probably get an adapter and use a love-joy connection, and mount the pump, but the tractor hyd pump would still be running. If no hyd are being utilized, the pump is running at full GPM, with little or no pressure. There is no guarantee that the new aux pump will last any longer than the tractor pump. Wear and tear are just a fact of life. The PTO pump on my Power-Trac is turning all the time the motor is running, and the particles smaller than the filter of 10 microns are slowly wearing the pump. I have three pumps on my PT-1445.

Yes. you can add a second pump. You might need a larger or additional reservoir, and another set of valves. Can your tractor support two hyd pumps running at max. Some tractor hyd are only used intermittently.

That's an interesting statement...can you back it up? Sure, pumps do wear out-but not that often. Also consider the fact that the pump is still pumping whether or not you power a FEL with it.

If you add a new pump, then you will either have to tap into the existing reservoir for your IN and OUT ports, and it's probably not big enough to handle the GPM requirements of the new pump as well without the fluid overheating or foaming do to air entrainment. The other option is to add a new tank and filter to create a separate system just for the loader.

That tractor is not a spring chicken and very well is deserving of a couple of pumps by now depending on hours. How often have you had to replace it?

Kubota ran a model 1200 fel on that tractor. My tractor used a double chain type set up coupling shafts with sprockets. The reserve was a square tank mounted on the right hand loader side verticle up right. Distribution center in Columbus ,Ohio hooked me right up. I would give Messick's a call. + 30 yr. old tractor and the last pump was my fault for not checking quik couplers.

I have an older l245dt with no loader. There is a lot to think about. Finding a loader is not easy for that tractor. Kubota no longer offers one; finding the fittings to add to the "onboard" hydraulics for the 3pt isn't easy either; third party loaders are expensive and require the proper bracketing so as not to take a chance of cracking a case. All that being said, I love the tractor and would hate to change to another. I've been exploring the idea of a pto driven pump, ofcourse that also requires a reservoir as well as Valving and hoses. In the end I'm always weighing the cost effectivness of it all......just my thoughts.

3.7 should operate a loader.

You have 22 HP at the PTO, so you could run a PO pump.

With this PTO pump, you can get about 11.4 GPM, at 2000 psi, using 18.1 HP .
