I just purchased a grey Kubota L2402 M & have a few questions if anyone can help. I would assume it's a 24 horse, what does the L & M designate? Also, it has the word "Monromatic" under the model name, any idea what that is? Serial # was hard to read, looks like 48738 or 18738, any idea of tractors age? I would guess a mid eighty's vintage. Last question, would the closest Kubota US model be a L275? I had one parts supplier tell me that. Thanks! Any info on the tractor would be a great help.

Hi,
L2402M is a 24HP on PTO, so engine could be around 26Hp.
L= L series range
M= Monoromatic
if you have DT between L2402 and M means 4WD
production range between 1978 & 1985

Monromatic is a control box found on the right fender which allows tilting of the RHS 3Point arm.

Sorry cannot help you with cross over model. But L2402 has a D1402 engine, whilst L275 has a D1302 version. Pay attention on spares ordering since the transmission could be also different.

regards

Micg,
A wealth of information, thanks so much for taking time to respond. The info on the D1402 engine was especially helpful.
Thanks!

The "02" Series of tractors were produced in a joint effort by Kubota with Daedong of China, makers of the Kioti tractor.

Daedong build the transmissions, Kubota provided the bevel drives, the engines and the final drives.

Sheet metal was of Daedong design which is why no other Kubota tractors look like the L1802's, 2002, 2402, 2602 and 2802's or share that skin.

While there are no 'direct" North American equivalents to this model, rest assured, a good majority of everything else is 100% Kubota and available.

You're going to need a Master Parts and Factory Assembly manual for this tractor if you're ever going to have success getting parts by 'part number".

Good luck on anything related to the transmission, it's a hybrid. Kioti is probably using it in a few of their models, I haven't gone looking there, but probably.

Kubota licenced Daedong to build for them, and that lasted a while until Kubota got wind of The "technical rip-offs" that were taking place, and moved to sever ties with what was once, a strong business partner with Kubota.

Sooooo, yes, the Monroematic tractors had an adjustable hydraulic link on the RH side that could be controlled manually through a rocker switch mounted on the RH fender, but more importantly, the matching Monromatic rototiller had 2 built in "directional" sensors that would determined when the soil in a terraced rice paddy was uneven, and would automatically adjust the tiller depth to compensate. The sensor system plugged into the back of the tractor, through a small square white plastic plug in.

I have also had/seen/worked on "M" designated Kubota "02" series tractors that were without the Monroematic features. Think Kubota was just using up decals in the plant.

Vintage is early to mid eighties, the vast majority of "02's" were produced at the height of production 1983.

Kubota put the hurt on Daedong shortly thereafter and it was lawsuits after that.

Check out a Kioti tractor built by Daedong and tell me if you're not looking at a Kubota. Right down to the orange paint and same hood lettering!!!

Vic,
Thanks for all the info. Yes, the Kioti machines are close cousins, aren't they?? To tell you the truth, I'd never heard of Kioti tractors until I bought the grey Kabota & starting researching parts & manuals.
I bought the tractor for 500 bucks, runs great, has 2900 hours, everything works (even the headlights) and I'm convinced I stole the thing. I found a good parts supplier, changed all the fluids & filters, added a 5' shredder and have already got my money back in a couple weekends mowing around barns & stock ponds.
Again, thanks to this forum Ive learned a PTO over-ride clutch is a good investment when running a mower with one of these machines.
You obviously have experience with these tractors, any idea on where to buy the Master Parts & Factory Assembly Manual you refered too? Lastly, do you have parts available for this unit?
Thanks again for all the information.

Seeking an operators manual for the L2402 DTM. Anyone have a url?
In particular, I want to deactivate draught control, and havent worked it out without the instructions.. My slasher is behaving like a stump-jump plough; lifting automatically under linkage strain. Thanks.
