I took off my backhoe today and put on my Harley Rake. When the backhoe is removed 2 directional control levers need to be pulled out or the tractor won't start. If not done so according to the owners manual the hydraulic system could be damaged. Well while my machine was idling today a strange noise was coming from the rear of the tractor, kinda like a winding sound like a bad bearing. It even felt like some kind of drag was on the machine like it was getting bogged down a little. When I shut off the tractor, it shut off as if there was a load on the engine. So when I turned the key off the engine almost instantly stopped turning. That's when I realized that I did not pull one of the two directional levers out when I switched over from backhoe to 3 point pto. The machine only ran for about 20 minutes at around 480 rpm while I was power raking. As soon as I realized my mistake I pulled the left lever out, restarted machine and noise was gone.
So my question is why was I able to start the tractor when the owners manual says it won't let you. Was it because I only pulled the right lever and not the left? Does anyone think I actually did any damage to the hydraulics in that amount of time?
Any input appreciated.
