Hey all,,,I am about to buy this excavator come Monday morning and am wondering if I am doing the right thing and getting a nice deal. This one is a 1999 and has 2042 hrs on the clock, real nice shape with minor track rips (rubber tracked), open rops, swing boom, & everything works for $15,500. Do any of you have experience with these and or has anyone heard of anythign bad about these or good about these. I am really interested in everyones input so PLEASE let me know. Thanks

Darin

No personal experience at all; only seen them at the dealer's lot and have seen a couple in use. Haven't heard anything but good about them myself. Apparently they're quite popular with utility companies, plumbers, etc. that have to work in, or get through, tight places. I think the smallest model retails for about $24k new. That picture sure makes yours look good; wish I had one.

Thanks Bird,

I really hope she performs as good as she looks for along time for me. I've done a search on this site and there isn't too many posts on mini's but still a good amount so I'm hoping someone will jump in here.

I have had experience w/the Kubota excavators, the KX101 & the KX151,and those machines are bullet proof as Kubotas in general seem to be. The 91 isn't that much smaller than a 101 so I would imagine that it is just as good. The most important thing is to make sure that it isn't a "grey market" machine,if it is a reputable dealer you are working with then it should be ok...if not get the serial # off of it and have a Kubota dealer take a look at the # and they will be able to tell if it is or not.Other things ....check the pins and bushings on the tracks...reach your hand under the track (the section where the sproket rides) and make sure the bushing is round and not flat, those rubber tracks can be expensive. If the machine looks clean and not all smashed up its probably pretty good, also find out why it is being sold(too small,no need for it,needed the money) just so you could get some backround. It sounds like a good price as long as all that stuff is good so dig away!

Thanks Tags,

I actually am buying it from a dealer that took it off the lot new and rented this unit out. The service department took great care of it with all maintenance records included. I at first frowned on the idea of a rental unit but like the guys said this one at least was probably taken better care of than a privately owned unit (well some private owners maybe) but I did get his point. They are selling it becaue really they have already made most of their money back in rental rates and selling before it has too many more hours and worse conditon will give them a bigger bonus. ha,ha. They are a good dealer for they have been spoke about around here with good comments only. Thanks and I continue to learn more everday from everyone here.

Thats cool that they owned it and used it as a rental,at least you know that if there were any repairs to the machine in the past they were done correctly by the dealer. If you have only previously owned a compact w/a fel and hoe you will be amazed at how efficently you can dig w/the excavator,it puts the hoe to shame.I don't know what you are planning to use the machine for(business or pleasure) but I have found the most valuable thing to add to an excavator is a quick coupler bucket system and a hyraulic thumb. The bucket system just allows you to be even more efficient by maching the bucket to the job,and some systems still allow the use of the stock bucket (I had a Werk-Brau coupler on my 151 and 3 buckets a 12",24", 48" grading bucket) and you could add buckets as you find you need them.I think the coupler costs about $800- and the buckets cost around $800-$1000 each, but can be added later through an outside vender if you want more info on where to get the stuff, just let me know, and if it doesn't interest you at all then I guess I crampped my hands fer nuttin'! :)

LOL Tags,, "cramped my hands for nuttin"... Actually this unit is coming with a 30" or a 36" clean out bucket (ditch bucket) & a 24" tooth bucket. I almost bought a different one that had a hyd thumb on it but the darn thing was sold out from under me... Not that it was mine but darn was I close.. Ha,ha. I have operated one but not at my leisure which should be totaly different. To be honest I think I'll have to wait on the thumb till at LEAST summer because I'm tapped right about now. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif no really I am. I would love though to have one and like you mentioned more bucket at my finger tips but oh well gotta take er easy now. Thanks again

What good r ya if ya don't have a sense of humor.......right??Those buckets sound like a good combo, the ditching bucket is really handy for stripping sod, spreading soil, and digging material out of the back of a truck. As for the thumb, all good things come to those blah, blah, blah I know what you mean about tapped out ,been there, done that! You should get tons of use out of that machine and I wish you good luck with it!

Hello I am a little late in this reply , however I own a KX121 -2, It's a late 1998 model with 1391 hours on it, I purchased it two years ago, It's a long arm model with a 24" bucket. This was the first excavator I purchased and it is an excellent machine It shares the same motor as the KX91-2 and it has a very smooth running motor. I use the machine for personal use. My machine uses steel track. I have a hyd. post hole digger I use for putting in fences as an attachment The aux. hyd. does an excellent job. I have always been a backhoe guy, and just purchased a L48, however there is no comparison to the versatility of the excavator once you are at the job site, compared to a backhoe. I have not heard of any problems with KX91-2/KX121-2/KX161-2 >Good luck
