New Holland T2220
Hi. I have a New Holland T2220 HST, which uses 2 hydraulic filters. The hydraulics filter is 84475483 (was 87300043). In the past I've found WIX 57098 to be a cross-reference replacement, and less expensive, and easier to find.

I'm looking to replace the filter(s) again, and in my search for a WIX 57098 from auto parts stores, I saw some critical customer feedback mentioning how disappointed they were that the WIX 57098 was not a good replacement for the Kubota HHTA0-37710 because it didn't have the magnet. That made me start searching for more information. The WIX 57098 is listed as a cross-reference for both the CNH and Kubota filters. It looks like CNH and WIX filters don't have a magnet, but the Kubota filter does have a fairly big one, as seen here:

New Holland Hydraulic Oil Filter Part # 84475483 - New Holland Rochester

Unfortunately I have not been able to find specifications for these filters to understand if the 3 are cross-compatible. But it seems that if they are equivalent, a magnet would be a big benefit, and so I'd be inclined to use the Kubota filter. Though I am a bit concerned that the magnet could restrict flow.

Does anyone have experience or thoughts here?

Thanks for the quick reply Dale.

The listings don't state or declare a magnet, I'm going by what Kubota owners say, and the pictures of the HHTA0-37710 showing an additional ring that looks like it would be a magnet. That ring is missing from the CNH and WIX filters. Again, I'm a bit hesitant because that may restrict flow. I'll pick one of these up on Friday to confirm, but curious if anyone already has experience here.

If that is just a magnetic ring..... Maybe you can just move it to filter of choice... Does not look like permanent attached part of filter... Kind of agree on flow issue though....

Yes magnet can be changed from old filter to new filter. BTDT several times since I've owned my Kubota M7040

Thanks. Good suggestions. And, wow, I would not have expected a magnet to have its own part number.

I don’t see a magnet as being a huge advantage.
1. The flow restriction concerns could be valid.
2. The magnet is on the suction side of the filter media, and after all the filter media is there to trap foreign material.
3. A high percentage of said foreign material will be non-ferrous.
But if a magnet in your hydraulic suction filter makes you feel better, by all means do.

My viewpoint is different from your viewpoint. If metal fragments are in my Kubota trans reservoir I'd rather have a magnet catch the particles than have the particles be floating around & end up in hyd pumps, brakes &/or hyd valves. 1st time I changed my M7040 hyd filters there were some metal particles on magnets but subsequent filter changes there was only a very small amount of metal filings. IIRC the magnets don't block holes in filter base to any extent.

Is the benefit of the magnet so you can see the metal it collects before it gets trapped by the filter material and is hidden? Other than that I don't see a benefit but maybe I'm missing something.

I think for forty-something bucks, I could stick one of my 90-pound pull bar magnets to the lower side and get just as much benefit. Besides, just what is the benefit of a magnet in a filter anyway? Is that some kind of new world swank polar alignment trick at the subatomic level? What will the magnet catch that the filter won't? Stuff smaller than 5 Microns? Really?
