I read in a earlier post the closest matched for Kubota orange and gray, but can't find it now. I am mainly concerned with the gray. I remember something about a "hammered" paint. Is gray spelled gray or grey?

DO you mean THIS post?

If not then it's part number 70000-73806 for a spray can of ROPS gray. Most dealers will also have it or can order it in quarts and gallons, probably for big $$$.

There was another color that was near identical other than the Rustolem. Keep em' coming boys!

I took a grey piece to Lowe's and they scanned the color and mixed a quart of paint similar to Rustoleum. It has held up good so far and the color was a very good match. I will attach the paint formula from the top of the can. I hope this helps.

As the new owner of a 2001 BX2200, I have reviewed back postings (back to May2002 so far) over the past month to pick out "nuggets" of experience. I have not saved the date or submitter for each nugget, so I can only give general credit to the great TBN community for sharing. Here are some nuggets on paint:
- The dealer sold me a can of New Holland frame paint that is the same color as the Kubota grey.
- I've used the Chevy Engine Orange (Dupli-Color) from Walmart and it is a PERFECT match in my opinion. I used it to touch up my loader, etc.
- My dealer recommended using AGCO Corporate Orange paint for touch ups
- I have had a perfect match with Kubota Orange II. I have bought quart cans and sprayed in my air sprayer.
- I don't know how big the spots you're trying to cover but if they're small chips I use the "touch up" orange II. It comes in a small bottle and works perfect with one coat. Make sure surface is clean and dry of course.
- I can still see a nice coat of paint on both buckets. Are you painting them after you get finished using them for your many projects? I touch mine up from time to time with a paint brush and black satin paint, makes them both look like brand new. Junkman turned me on to the satin black paint, seems it works on Kubota's and New Holland's as well.

Happy Tractoring

What color of Plastikote?

For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would buy an expensive tractor and then not buy OEM paint from the dealer. A spray can of ROPS Grey (exact match, no fiddling around, no off color) is around $4.00. Same holds true for Orange II. Both Orange II and ROPS Kubota brand spray paint have excellent coverage properties, they dry quickly and best of all, have the same gloss and color when dry as the factory applied finish. It's a no brainer.

Supprot your dealer and Kubota.

The one I use, is the 285 Rebuilder's Grey Cast Finish.

It's not an exact match to Kubota, but very close.

This is what is use on my Bro-Tek skid plate. It's very...very durable stuff.

If you dislike your dealer (hate isn't in my vocabulary), then why don't you buy OEM coatings from TractorSmart. They are an advertiser here. I've gotten filters from them. Good service delivered right to your door, and competitive prices.

If you need a root canal, well, I am an amature dentist. I have a pair of channellock's that will do the job /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OEM paint at my dealer isn't $4, it's over $8 a can. I use the chevy orange.
Works great for me. Someone once said "A penny saved is a penny earned." Lincoln I believe. I always use this motto.

A penny saved... is from Ben Franklin who also said "Beer is proof that God wants us to be happy". I like Ben Franklin.
Buy paint from a dealer, any dealer.

All the best,
Martin

Your dealer must dislike you too. Last time I bought a can of ROPS Grey it was $4.28 and that was last year.

Again, I always support my dealer as much as I can. Many threads have been discussed here about dealers and their profits, but the bottom line is that a dealer supports the community through jobs provided to his/her employees. Dealers as a rule make their profit on the sale of acessories after the initial sale.

If anyone here can afford the luxury, and I say luxury not necessity of a CUT, then those folks should have the wherewithall to spend a few extra dollars buying from their dealer. If not, maybe those folks should rethink their priorities

I've been into two (2) different Kubota Dealers who don't even know me (therefore they would have no reason to "dislike" me), and the price of a spray can of Kubota Orange II or Kubota Grey was $8 and change. I'm sorry, but Quality spray paints like rustoleum, krylon, dupli-color, etc. are less than half that price, so if I can find a good match that is the way I will go. By the way, Dupli-color chevy engine orange at Walmart is under $4 a can, and a perfect match.

If you argument has any merit then no one would try for a better deal and would always pay list price. Phoooeee on that. Walmart employs thousands of folks. Their milk here is 3.39 a gallon. Phooeee on that also. Braum's has it for 2.89 a gallon. I'm sorry 5030 but your theroy is plum full of holes. always try to get the best deal on Quality merchandise. It's the AMERICAN way. Also phooeee on china junk.

I bought a spray can of ROPS gray from the dealer in Montpelier, VT and it was over $10. I won't need it too often so I feel it's worth it not to have to chase around trying to get a match.

Kubota Orange II, $7.60 last march from dealer.

I wouldn't support a dealer that didn't support me either, but, he isn't the only place you can get Kubota paint, right? If you want the paint to match, pay a little extra and get the real stuff. If you want it to sorta match, shop around for a bargain and experiment....which might end up costing more. If you don't care at all what it looks like you can get a can of primer for $1.99 or just use whatever you have in the garage.
