I doubt either machine would do any given chore significantly better than the other one would. I bought a Kioti, but would have been just as happy with a Kubota. Came to $ difference between the two for me. I couldn't justify the extra expense of the Kubota at the time for my occasional tractor needs. If money is not a factor for your friend, I would say test drive both machines, and pick what suits him best. I do know that when I was searching, some of the tractor brands that looked good on paper had lousy ergonomics for me when I actually drove them. If the pedals/FEL joystick/seat/controls/whatever is awkward during a test drive of any machine you're test driving, I'd go look at something else. The first tractor I test drove wasn't orange, and I had high hopes going into it, but after a couple of minutes it was apparent that machine wasn't for me. Steering wheel was too close even with the seat all the way back, same with the pedals. FEL joystick was on the loader instead of the fender, and I couldn't reach it without leaning forward, at which point the non-tilt steering wheel was digging into my gut. Nope. Finally found a tractor that "fit" me in the Kioti. Had to spend more to get the NX series Kioti over the other color I test drove first, but I'm glad I got something that I can use comfortably anyway.
