I have a Kubota APT185 KD7 IT4 Air compressor in for repair. When starter switch is turned, it starts right up. When the switch is turned to run, it just stops. I have checked the oil level - OK, lots of fuel, replaced ign. switch, going to check alternator now. Worked fine for 100 hours, ate lunch, now it won't keep running. Filters replaced. Any help appreciated.

Just a stab in the dark here. Some kubota engines have a type of fuel cutoff solenoid with 2 coils. The first coil is activated on start and takes a lot of current to pull and open so the fuel can flow, but this coil will burn out if left on all the time. When you switch from start to run, the hold coil is supposed to take over and hold the solenoid open. It is a low current coil designed to operate while the tractor is running. It could be that your hold coil in the fuel solenoid is not working. Don't know is your engine has this type of fuel solenoid.

Dear Wingnut: The manual doesn't show a solenoid in the fuel system. I'm following all the lines and looking. I thought that too, that it might be a solenoid sticking or wire to it broken, but so far haven't located one. It is a 4 cyl Kubota engine.

If there is no solenoid, then you must be using a manual shutoff. If not, and the engine shuts off with the key, there should be a fuel solenoid, perhaps integrated into the injection pump.

I'll check and Kubota says that the alternator might not be putting out enough juice. If that's true, it will shut itself off. I'll check that next.

IF you pull a cable to shut it down, it has NO solenoid..
IF you turn the machine off w/ a key, it HAS an electric solenoid.
Usually located to the left of the injection pump. IF it has 3 wires going to/from it.. it has 2 coils & a host of relays somewhere..
The relays go bad often.. as do the solenoids.. its a very common problem.
I JUST googled Kubota v2403 fuel shut off & it popped right up..
Its bolted to the left side of the inj. pump. Usually held on by either 2, 10mm screws or 2, 5mm allen head screws.
They range from 40.00 to 90.00 if your going to replace it.
OR you can TEST IT before replacing it. {smart thing}

Great advice. I'll climb up there this morning and check for the solenoid.
