I have a Kubota V2403 engine that had the exhaust stack flapper cover fail (broke off due to wear and vibration). I did not notice it at the time and it rained resulting in an unknown quantity of water going down the stack.

The distributor recommended removing the 4 glow plugs; turning the engine over several times then replacing them and starting the engine.
This would theoretically prevent a hydro lock from occurring if water actually got that far down.

I am not a diesel engine expert and have never removed the glow plugs before.

As I got started I wondered if there is a seal that I have to replace or worry about as I reinstall the glow plugs or if they just have a metal to metal thread and screw back in making the seal to keep compression up. I stopped the removal of the glow plugs until I could get clarification on the question.

Anyone know the answer?

Thanks

Glow plugs just screw in, you could always try turning the engine with the crankshaft bolt to see if it's free from a hydro lock.

I really doubt that you have enough water in the stack to get in the engine unless you got 4 or 5 inches of rain.

My plan had been to hand turn the engine through but the distributor was the one who said pull the plugs.
I know they just screw in; my question was whether there was a seal other than a metal to metal thread seal that I had to worry about and that might have to be replaced as the plugs were removed and reinstalled. If they seal just like spark plugs, which they clearly are not, then there is no issue to be concerned about. Just wanted to know before I got them out of the hole.

I'd coat the threads of GP's with "never seize" if it was my engine.

And don't over tighten them.

See you still did not get an answer...
Yes they screw in Just like spark plugs, You will not have to worry about a seal, Like Tx Jim said use anti- seize and as TheFred said don't over tighten... You should be fine.

Manual shows proper torque is 15-18 foot-pounds.

No seal to worry about, Fred

You have a manual for the V2403 that specifies the torque, good deal? The owners manual certainly does not and I have had no luck finding a service manual on line for that engine.
