Hello, i've been wanting to put together a how-to on installing a DIY 3rd function for the BX tractors. The information is somewhat hard to come across all in one place. I wish I had taken better pictures of every little detail but I think that most folks who should be taking on this project will get enough out of my write-up. the PDF version is best as it has pictures, but i'll post just the text for lack of knowing how to do it better!
FOREWORD: This instruction is intended to help BX owners understand their tractors hydraulic system and to aid in DIY installation of a 3rd valve onto the tractor in order to run an implement such as the QWIK-GRAP grapple or hydraulic rotation on a snowblower. This instruction is for BX50 & BX60 series tractors, it will likely work for other series as well but I have not confirmed. This is intended for information purposes only and shall not be construed as fact; THOMPSON PRECISION MANUFACTURING INC. takes no responsibility for the use of this document. WARNING! Tractors and hydraulics are dangerous and should only be altered by a mechanically qualified and competent person. Hydraulic systems can generate extreme forces and leaks; these can cause serious personal injury or even death. Please take all precautions when working on tractors or hydraulics, wear safety glasses, protective footwear and clothing.
PARTS LIST: For Canadian owners these parts can be readily purchased from Princess Auto (Princess Auto) and automotive parts stores. Parts are listed with a Princess Auto SKU number for ease of ordering. American owners may use this as a guide and can purchase parts through local suppliers or Surplus Center (Surplus Center).

INSTALLATION:
1. Clean underside of tractor and behind right rear wheel in preparation for installation, park tractor on a flat hard surface to ensure safety while working on the tractor. If the loader is installed the bucket should be lowered to the ground and all pressure relieved from the hydraulic system by moving the joystick in all directions with the tractor turned off.
2. Jack rear of tractor up and support with a jack stand. Remove right rear wheel to access hydraulic lines.
3. Behind the right rear wheel there is a diamond shaped block with two hydraulic lines coming into it, this is your feed and return line for the loader valve. Disconnect the rear hydraulic line from the elbow and bend this hydraulic line down approximately 1" to allow clearance for the hydraulic hose to connect to the existing elbow. Mark 46" long hose ends with a P and 58" long hose ends with a T and run the straight hose ends from the right hand loader mount underneath the floorboard and up to this area. Connect the P hose end to the existing elbow. Connect the -6 MJIC x -6 MJIC 90 deg elbow to the tube line as shown, connect the T hose to the other side of the elbow.
4. Assemble the D03 valve subplate. Install a -6 MORB x -6 MJIC 90 deg elbow in the P & T ports on the subplate. Assemble two sets of -6 MORB x -4 MNPT 90 deg elbow with a 1/4" NPT male quick connect nipple and install these into the A & B ports on the subplate and face the quick connect nipples towards the T port side. Assemble the D03 valve subplate onto the D03 valve and position behind the loader mount at the front of the right floorboard with the quick connect nipples pointing up. Loosely connect the hydraulic lines run in step 3.
5. Now you will have to fabricate a bracket to mount the hydraulic valve to the floorboard. There are two existing holes punched through the floorboard that may be used to secure the bracket and valve. Once you have your bracket built you can re-assemble it with the valve and mount to the floorboard. Re-connect hydraulic lines to valve and tighten. Tie up hydraulic lined underneath floorboard and back near hydraulic block.
6. Assemble the joystick control with the supplied wiring harness, cut off the ring terminal on the end of the orange wire. Pull off the existing joystick knob and set aside. A 10-24 hole will need to be drilled and tapped into the end of the joystick in order to secure the new control. Zip tie wiring harness down the joystick.
7. Cut the plugs off of the T end of the other wiring harness that came with the joystick control and disassemble the taped joint to reveal the green and blue wires. Cut wires just before they are spliced to allow the most wire possible. Run an additional 16 ga wire through black tubing up to where the green and blue wires were revealed and tape to blue wire, leave approximately 8 in. extra at the plug end of the harness. Run another 16 ga wire from the end of the blue wire to the end of the green wire. Remove the wiring connectors off of the valve solenoids and install one onto the blue wire side and one onto the green wire side of this harness, blue and green going to positive and the new wires going to negative on the wiring connectors. Tape wires to protect them and re-install wiring connectors onto the solenoids. It does not matter which connector goes onto which solenoid.
8. Remove battery compartment cover. Remove two nuts securing the fuse block and pull fuse block out. Solder or wire tap the orange wire from the joystick control into the wire coming out of the back of the fuse block for the DC Outlet circuit. Ensure that you are tapping into the fuse protected side of this circuit, on this tractor it was a 16 ga red/black wire on the lower right side of the fuse block. Install a ring terminal on the additional wire you ran to the solenoids and put onto one of the fuse block mounting bolts to ground circuit. Re-install fuse block. Route new wiring harness to come out the top and bottom corners of the battery compartment so that when the battery compartment cover is re-installed it does not pinch them. Connect the joystick wiring harness to the solenoid wiring harness with the original white plugs and tie all wires up so they are neat and do not obstruct the loader valve linkage.
9. At this point your 3rd function kit is complete, turn the key to RUN position and test the joystick control buttons. When you push a button one of the solenoids should activate with an audible click and the LED on the solenoid wiring connectors should light up. If they do not re-check your wiring. Start the tractor and idle up until the loader starts to work. When depressing the joystick control buttons you should now hear the hydraulic system go into bypass on the pressure relief. Check all hydraulic connections with a piece of cardboard or paper for leaks.
10. If you are installing a QWIK-GRAP you can now assemble and install the hydraulic lines from the grapple to the valve. Install two female quick connect couplers & dust plugs onto the -4 MNPT ends of the 96" & 104" hoses. Install the -6 FJIC 90 deg hose end of the 104 long hose onto the bottom port of the grapple cylinder and tighten with the line running vertically up the body of the cylinder. Install the -6 FJIC 90 deg hose end in the same fashion to the top port of the grapple cylinder. Zip tie the bottom hose to the top one near the hose end to help keep them from rotating. Run hydraulic lines up along loader arm and connect quick connects to your new 3rd valve & secure with Velcro straps for easy removal or zip ties. Ensure there is enough slack in these lines when the bucket is in the fully dumped position and that they do not get pinched in the fully curled position. Test operation with joystick control, if you want to switch which button operates the open/close on the grapple just swap the hydraulic lines at the quick connects on the valve.
