Considering Kubota tractors and see L296 72 Quick Attach HD Round Back Bucket and 72 Quick Attach Square Back Bucket as available choices, my question what is the functional difference for general use?
Also, is the available bolt-on cutting edge a worthy additional to either bucket.

Tractor that offers these bucket options in the MX5400, 4 WD, HST, with ROPS.

16 years on a HD bucket with bolt on cutting edge. Extreme work on the farm and also for hire. Zero issues. No idea how durable the series down is.

I've taken out many trees and bushes with the bucket edge and bolt on straight bar. A lot faster for material up to 3 inches vs backhoe. Bent the edge on an older Ford's bucket doing same.

Round back will likely be heavier and smaller capacity but will take more abuse than a square backed one. Check out the weight difference. If you plan on a lot of ground engagement or moving rocks you will probably want the heavier duty bucket or you end up with the smily face bucket edge. If you are moving stuff like manure or mulch you probably want the higher capacity bucket.

The bolt on edge might stiffen the square back bucket enough for your needs. I'd consider something like the piranha bar for bolt on edge if you do a lot of earth digging. Straight bolt on edge if you scrape a lot of concrete or asphalt floors.

I bought a bolt on tooth bar and think it was wasted money because I dont like using it. I wouldnt recommend getting one. The teeth are made to fit universally over multiple different buckets and there is a large gap around them over the bucket edge. Just gums up with grass and roots after a couple of minutes and ends up being a big time waster for me. I prefer welded on teeth like on my backhoe trenching bucket.

AG tractors arent designed for earth moving so Id suggest not getting a tooth bar or a bolt on edge unless you really need one (i.e. you are a commercial landscaper regularly scraping roads or concrete bunkers) or the bucket is worn too much. The added weight just means you have less lifting capacity on the loader.

I personally prefer the woods HD round back bucket, it’s deeper and has a higher capacity than the stock kubota buckets. The only issue I’ve had though is the paint prep sucks and the paint constantly flakes off. My old standard kubota bucket the paint seemed like it lasted way better.

I opted for HD bucket 2296 with bolt on edge. Total weight is 467#. If I remember right HD bucket is 60 something pounds heavier than the standard 72". I had HD bucket on my Bobcat and feel that it's one area that takes extreme abuse. I've never talked to anyone that said they would have save some money and got a standard bucket.

Here's a pic of the back. I sticker the back with the weight, along with BH and loader...my OCD I guess

Thanks, not too concerned with capacity, will but Get an HD for sure and probably add the cutting edge while it is new. Hope dealer will have examples of both when I step up the search. Trying to have a little better understanding on these type options which I have no personal knowledge, which is what makes this forum great I believe.

I will say this though. If you look closely at my photograph and enlarge it the SSQA plate is not welded square to the bucket it's higher on the right side (yes the perspective is off because I'm not centered to the bucket). You can also see the reveal at the bottom of the plate and the bucket is higher on the right side. Disappointed in Kubota QC a bit as I can see it clearly now that I have bucket off and on a stand. I'm not sure yet how to show this on photographs but I'm working on it. And, I'm not sure if it matters. OCD once again I guess.

Anybody else have this issue? If, it is an issue after-all?

I do a lot of grading in reverse with the bucket flipped over. The top edge of my HD bucket is heavy wall pipe. At the time I purchased mine the regular one was bent sheet metal.

Eleven years with a 72" heavy duty, round back, quick attach Kubota bucket. It has a Rankin bolt on tooth bar. No problems. 2009 Kubota M6040. Can you see it thru the weeds........View attachment 665192

I have Kubota's 72" L2296 H-D, R-B on my Kubota L3560 with LA805 Loader.

L2296 has had 7-1/2 years use. It looks new.

The L2296 has slightly lower volume capacity compared to standard square back bucket. Damp earth always drops cleanly out of round-back bucket. Damp earth sometimes clings in standard square back bucket. I have owned both.

Bolt on bucket edge NOT advisable on L2296 unless demolition will be a regular use.

Bolt on edge interferes with mounting Piranha (digging) toothbar, Ratchet Rake brush clearing attachment and ever so useful Bucket Spade.

I suggest mounting one weld-on 5/16" chain grab hook in line with each of the two loader arms.

YES.
