You know, I looked into buying the Kubota brand tiller for my
BX1800, but before doing so, shopped around and asked a lot of questions (because I thought the ~$1500 was a bit pricey). I landed on the First Choice 48" tiller, -RT04-48, from Sweet's (
New Implements - Tillage). Price was excellent (~$1130 w/shipping) and it came with a slip clutch versus shear pin.
After spending an hour with a hack saw (and my wife's "help") cutting down the PTO shaft (should've tried a circular saw w/metal cutting blade, I think /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), It worked like a champ. I had no trouble attaching it to the 3pt hitch on the
BX1800 (no mods on the pins) and the BX had no trouble lifting and operating it. I've only had a chance to use it for about 30 min. but it runs very quietly and smoothly (for a tiller, that is).
This was my first experience in cutting down a PTO shaft and I surprised myself in that it worked the first time! (I think I'll pat myself on the back--I can fix F4 and F16 jet aircraft, but not tractors.) Just my two cents worth.
Cheers,
Randy
