Hi. I'm new to the board and have a few quick questions. I'm looking at possibly buying an '86 Kubota B9200 with 60" mower deck.

Has anyone on here owned this model before? I've heard good things about it, can you give me any pros or cons?

It has fairly low (670) hours and seems to have been well taken care of. Are there any concerns in buying a tractor this old?

What seems like a fair price? I think the dealer is asking too much, but I'm too new to this to know for sure.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

If you don't get what you need here, you might want to post this question in the Kubota forum.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I bought my B9200 last year and I love it. Mine is a 4 wd, hydro, 60” MMM, turf tires, and power steering (hope to add a tiller soon). It had 975 hrs. I believe power steering was an option on these, yours may not have it – I don’t think I would be happy without it. I looked at a couple of these and this one was in great shape and appeared well maintained. The guy wrote the date and hrs on all the filters when he changed them. I never thought of that so I’ve continued doing it myself.
We seem to have a few of these tractors around this area (Northern Kentucky) but I haven’t ran across much discussion on the web. If you search the member profiles you’ll see 2 or 3 others here on TBN.
I like the ground clearance and it feels really solid. You get a draw bar and position control – not the case on some of these newer machines.
I don’t know if you’ll run into this but the guy I bought it from kept saying it was a 24HP and even the parts guy at my local Kubota deal said it was too. But the plate on the side of the tractor and the manual say it’s a 22hp. I guess they just wanted it to be a little bigger than it is.
I use mine to mow 3 acres (1 yard, 2 field ). I wasn’t sure if I could use the MMM on the field but I haven’t had any problem. I just raise the deck up higher when I mow it (position control is nice). I wasn’t sure I would really need 4wd but I sure am glad I reviewed TBN before I bought. Not only does it help going up the hills we have around here but I think it’s a must to go down the hills (didn’t know I was in 2wd once and did a little slide on wet grass).

I would like to hear feedback from anyone that has owned one of these just to get a heads up on any possible problems.

Thanks everyone. I'll have to check about the power steering, I don't know if it comes with that or not. It has a 60" MMM and ag tires. The ag tires are worn down enough that they shouldn't hurt the yard as long as it's not wet.

I would be using it for a 3.5 - 4 acre yard weekly, and to bush hog a 3 acre clover plot monthly. Thanks for the comments on 4wd Dog. My yard has very few flat spots and I like to mow my pond dam when I mow the yard, so it could come in real handy.

Hi,

Just wondering if I was dreaming when I suggested the poster might want to post here...

Was he already here when I wrote that...am I going nuts without realizing it? Probably.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

You're not going crazy, someone moved it. I had to hunt for a while for it myself this morning. :)

I believe it is the higher HP brother to my B8200. My B8200 is solid as a rock. My 19hp seems a little low for my tractor, but it is a pretty hardy unit.

My B8200 is an 86/87' and is just now getting to 700 hours. It sat outside before I got it, so the faded paint makes it look a bit older/more used.

The dealer here wanted $11,000 for a B8200, 450 hours, loader, and scraper. I was HST, with power steering(mine does not have...). That was about three months ago.

RobertN, I found out that this 9200 does not have power steering either. How hard is the steering on these models? I'll be mowing around a lot of trees in the yard.

I will preface this with the fact that I have turf tires on the front. I changed to R4 in the back, and will upgrade the fronts when the $$$ is appropriate. I have found the turf tire to be "mushy", and believe it has an affect on steering.

As such, I have found the steering to be fine when the loader is empty. I can buzz around just fine, even with tight turns. This is true whether I have the scraper on the back or the rear rotary mower. If I take the quick detach loader off, it is light in the front, and will push the frontend while turning. Before I had the loader, I used suitcase wieghts on the front.

When using the loader, and scooping up heavy things, the steering does get hard, I think especially with the "mushy" turf tires.

I have no expierience with Mid mount mowers.
