Now that I have my Kubota B7500, I seem to have a intermitant starting problem. Mostly on cold starts, nothing happens after warming the glow plug, pushing in the stop button and turning the key. I may have to go thru this for several minutes till it will fire and then turns right over. The battery seems well charged and I think the starter was changed a couple of years ago. I have just over 600 hours on the tractor. Any one have any ideas what might be wrong and how to fix?

About your mule:

A couple of things come to mind;
Check the alternator belt first off:

1. Dead cell in the battery.
2. engine starter solenoid.
3. bad starter switch/momentary contact switch
4. loose alternator belt/1/8-3/16 slack in the V belt
on the bottom side only.

Remove the battery and charge it fully
over 24 hours and have the battery load
tested to eliminate that issue.

If you are past the battery stage I would
remove the starter and have it tested by
a rebuild shop or the dealer if they have that
ability to check it for you.

You could have the battery and starter checked
at the same time to eliminate those two issues
immediately.

if it doesn't crank right away ..the problem is in the key switch, the starter solenoid or starter motor. (if you here a click at the starter solenoid then power is getting as far as the solenoid on the starter meaning the key switch is ok but still could be the starter solenoid or starter motor).

cold affects the power available in the battery. most things don't like the cold ...myself included.

do check and make sure the battery connections are clean and secure.

it will not be a dead cell in the battery or alternator belt (not that they are ok but if it cranks after a few tries it is not those things preventing it from starting).

Thanks for the input.

Yes nothing happens right away. No clicking at the soloind etc... silence. I will check the other things as well but sounds like the key switch. Guess the only way to know for sure is to replace it....?

you can check if it, the key is passing the power to the terminal that goes to the starter solenoid ..or jump the power wire at the key switch to the wire that goes to the solenoid to see if that is the problem or if it is at the solenoid.

If I jump the wire from the key switch to the solenoid, am I by passing something?

Jiggle the pto engagement lever when you turn the key.

what you are doing is what the switch should do ...to test whether it is the switch or not.

if it cranks then the key switch is bad. if the solenoid is good then it will crank when you jump the power on the switch to the wire going to the solenoid.

Before you replace the ignition switch you may as well spray some WD-40 in there...nothing to lose trying that.
