I found a used 2001 Kubota B7500 HSD with 302 FEL and the seller is asking $7,700. Is this a reasonable deal? What are the specs on this tractor and how much different than the current B7510? In california, Do tractors have title like cars? What document do I need from the seller? Will this involve DMV paper work? If I buy from a private party, does it involve DMV paper work? I never bought or own a tractor before. So, I'm asking dumb questions like these. Thanks in advance for your help.

You never know about what the good citizens of California think is a useful law, but here in Ohio, a tractor can exchange hands pretty much like a bicycle. Simply swap money for tractor and both parties depart the premises.

I seriously doubt if the DMV is involved since tractors are not usually road going vehicles or operated in public areas like boats. There might be a title. You can always call your local registrar of motor vehicles and ask to get the straight dope right away.

I'd say that sounds like a good price, presuming everything is working okay. I've been told my circa 1980 B7100DT with FEL is worth between 4 and 5K by dealers. How many hours are on it? Gear or HST? Mid PTO? Tires?

Fill us in on details like those and I'm pretty sure the guys here will let you know if it's a price that's good for you or good for the seller. How about delivery/pickup? Cali is a pretty long state. If you're on one end and the tractor is on the other you could have some fair amount of cost involved in getting the thing home.

Last May I bought a B7510HST/LA302 FEL from my local Kubota dealer. Paid sales tax and a $20 fee to CA. That's all the bureaucrats/politicians got on that deal. No DMV hassle. IIRC, the lights and turn signals have to work and you need one of those "Slow Moving Vehicle" placards on the rear of the tractor.

After I pay off the tractor, I get a copy of the bill of sale marked Paid in Full. That's my proof of ownership.

You can find the B7500 specs at

and the B7510 specs at

Thanks for the info. I thought there's no sales tax on farm equipment in CA.... So, I read it as no DMV title required for a tractor. That means I don't need to register with the DMV and pay the sales tax if I buy a used tractor from a private party right? Flusher: Which dealer did you buy your B7510 from? Thanks.

Bought my tractor at George's Equipment in Redding.

Don't know about the sales tax on used tractors.

IIRC, you need some sort of ID from the county or state showing that you own and operate a legitimate agribusiness, as opposed to a hobby farm, before you qualify for sales tax and diesel tax exemptions.
