hi i just bought a Kubota B7100 diesel tractor. its a gear shift no hydro. but i changed the oil and filter as soon as i got it. when you check the oil before you start it like you should the level is over full by a decent amount. if you start it and run it then shut it off and check the oil level its perfect. im not sure i diesel fuel is going past the rings or if the oil is draining out o the filter because its on sideway and also coming out of the cyclinder walls or whats going on. let me know what you think. thanks

That's only the case when you change the oil-filter. When you don't change the oil-filter, the level stays unchanged after running the motor.
The amount that you had to overfill, is the amount that fits in the filterhousing.

When you say "check the oil before you start it" are you just pulling the dipstick out and looking at the oil level on it, or do you pull it out, wipe it off, reinsert it, and pull it out again to check the level. I ask because I've seen a situation in which the dipstick sealed very well at the top of the tube. So as a hot engine cooled, the air in the dipstick tube also cooled and shrunk, creating a vacuum that sucked oil up into the tube. So if I just pulled the dipstick out of a cold engine, it showed to be overfull, but not on a hot engine, and not on a cold engine either if I pulled it out, wiped it off, reinserted it and pulled it out again.
