1st time using my PTO.. attaching a woods mower on a Late 70s early 80s Kubota Gear driven B7100. the PTO is grinding when I engage the lever to raise mower attachment.
The lift motor does work, if I shut off the tractor, engage the lever to lift position and restart the tractor, the mower will lift!
Is this some type of safety feature? Or should the lever engage while tractor is running without grinding?
Am I doing something wrong?

Does anybody have a picture of your PTO properly hooked up, to a mower so I can see if I have mine mounted correctly?
I do not not know which direction to turn the little spacer L shaped brackets that go on to the bottom PTO shafts? I am guessing the adjustable metal links (About 16" long with adjustments to tighten) attach to these ?

2. Also I have a Leinbach Post Hole Digger 7300 auger (which is the bigger model) does anyone know if this will work on a B7100? I think I need the 7200 jr model.. but wondering if the 7300 is worth trying? I need to install about 12 posts

3. The hydraulic fluid in my tractor is a pinkish color. Is this bad?
I do not know what type of fluid was in the machine before, but I am using Napa Hydraulic Fluid which lists as "Kubota UDT" compatible on the back label.
The Napa Fluid is clear, so the pinkish color in machine has me concerned.. of course I have an important job coming up.. and just finished replacing the FEL dump cylinder rod.. so hoping I can put machine to work for about a 3-4 hour job and then do a complete fluid change this summer.
Appreciate any advice

I think you have your descriptions wrong, these things(most of them) have oil pumps in the gear cases

ANY grinding in any mule is never good, repeat never good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You most likely need to have it(the PTO engagement/clutch throw) adjusted.

Is this Woods Mower a rear mount mower???

If you can afford it, take it to a Kubota dealer.

It may have been whining I was hearing which sounded to me like grinding..
/ My B7100 is gear driven.. does it have a pump in transmission to run the 3 point lift?

The pto grinds when you try to engage it or when you try to lift the 3 point hitch? There isn't a safety feature to cause this.

Check your clutch adjustment, should be around 1" free play and make sure you push it all the way in when engaging pto.

I dumped some John Deere red dye into my L3200 filled with crystal clear Super UDT2. Got annoyed I could never determine if the fill was above or below the sight glass. Heck, had a hard time even seeing the line when it was filled just right.
