Kubota B7100HST 4x4
Hello I just joined the forum because I just bought my first tractor - an older B7100 hydrostatic 4x4. I don't even know what year it is yet.

I have a couple of questions. Are these prone to have diff lock failures? Mine doesn't do anything when I step on the lever.

My next question is probably a silly one. There are left and right brake pedals that could be useful except how do I step on them when my foot is holding down the hydro drive pedal? The only time it seems I can step on them is when I'm already stopped.

Thanks, Greg

Greg

I can not offer any comment on the dif lock reliability. The set up on my B7200 hydro works fine.
Does the B7100 have a "speed lever" that gives hand control to forward motion? The B7200 does, and that is how I use the steering brakes.

There is a lever on the console that has a rabbit and turtle on it, but I haven't figured out what it does because nothing happens when I move it up and down.

Lever on the console is the rpm , i rarely use my brake pedals , mostly just for the parking brake. The pedals right behind the brake is you forward and reverse. When using the diff lock you need to keep your foot on it , the diff will lock in as soon as it's needed until you take your foot off it.

I just found the correct operator manual and figured out the short lever on the console is the speed set device. I'll have to play around with it some more.

That's interesting about the diff lock engaging when it's needed. I had one tire spinning and expected the other tire to turn as soon as I stepped on it. I hope it is working.

it's good to have , hopefully something simple as adjustment. And yes, that little lever is like a cruise control

I would go easy trying to engage the diff lock with a tire spinning, most of these are not clutches but pins that will engage solidly, engaging while spinning can break things, back off till not spinning engage and then reapply power.

The differential lock should be engaged with the tractor stopped and then held down for use.

For the brakes if you have a proper shoe size it's possible using the heel toe method.

When I had a B7100HST I used the heel and toe method when I needed to brake and apply the HST at the same time. LIke when starting moving on a steep hill when I did not want the tractor to roll back at all. Or when I had the link between the two brake pedals disengaged so I could brake one wheel for making a tight turn or to keep that tire from spinning.

Be careful engaging the diff lock. It's purely mechanical, there's no clutches in there. If you get rough with it you can break parts inside the transmission. Mine would often not engage even when I was pressing down (gently) on the pedal, until one tire slips. Then the pedal would move another half inch or so and the diff would be locked. There's two gears that need to mesh to engage the lock. It's very primitive.
