So I bought an old B7100, wanted to flush all the fluids. Removed what I thought was a drain plug and it was actually a stop plug for the hydraulic control valve pump and then the bolt (plug) won't go back in. Something is preventing it from threading in. I tried forcing it and now the threads are stripped in the aluminum. I can't be the first idiot to do this as it looks exactly like a drain plug as it's directly below the oil filter on the pump. So, now what? How do I move the piston out of the way so I can re-tap a larger bolt with a ground down shoulder to put back in there. I've attached a picture from the parts manual to show number 15 is what I'm talking about. Anybody want to help this idiot understand what's going on inside that hole and tell me how to fix my mess?

Judging by the parts break down that bolt holds the thrust plate that the piston slippers ride on. There a spring load on that plate so it could possibly have slipped out of position.

I would be very cautious trying to machine that since chips are potentially going to get into the rotating group ( piston assembly) and destroy your HST transmission.

might have to dismantle that portion of the HST transmission to perform the repair

Looks can and will be deceiving. Should have had a manual prior to nebishing with the tractor. Sucks to be you....

I can’t help but - I can apologize for the totally inappropriate and mean comment above.

Please do not assume everyone on here acts like this person. Most do not.

Most try to help.

At this point, I'm 100% sure that his participation here is just to increase the post count, regardless of the crap that comes out... For such a real farmer he claims to be, he sure has plenty of time to troll on this forum. Maybe he just speaks with farmers and considers himself a farmer?

Anyways, back to the topic, I'm with oldnslo. That bolt held the motor swash plate in place and things maybe have moved inside and now requires further disassembly of the HST unit to repair. Which might not be that bad as you still needed to take most of it apart to repair the threads.

People that start removing plugs and bolts or whatever with no prior knowledge of what they do or what they retain or impact are not to swift. Kind of reminds me of the kid who takes dad's alarm clock apart and puts it back together but it don't run anymore because the kid had no idea how it needed to be reassembled but took it apart for the hell of it, which is EXACTLY what transpired here btw...

At least with the clock, it's right 2 times every 24 hours, running or not. The tractor is no longer running because the 'kid' removed a bolt that was intrinsic to the transmission assembly when the prudent thing to do would have been to obtain a shop manual (online at Kubota Books .com for free download and actually looked to see where the drain plugs were instead of just taking out bolts will nilly because they 'looked like drain plugs...

Often times, it's much better in the log run, to be informed and not 'just shooting in the dark'. Shooting in the dark, nets you nothing but grief usually... as the op found out.

All I did was state a simple fact in simple terms. Nothing more.

Help away if you can. Not knowing how it functions, I'd say most of your comments are basically useless. Time to take it to a dealer and let them fix the mistake.

I believe the OP completely understands he made a mistake. Degrading him does absolutely nothing to help him or teach him anything. Mind boggling.

This looks to be some type of stop or pressure port for the wobble plate style of pump. Have to tried turning the engine to reinstall the plug?

Might try having a helper move the hydrostat treadle (speed adjustment) gently when trying to screw the "bolt" in. That might let it in but doesn't fix the thread problem.

A thought for fixing the stripped threads might be a spiral fluted tap which pulls the shavings out of the hole but still run the risk of contamination.
Gravity would be in your favor, however.

Hate to ask but would some JBWeld or equivalent on the threads fix the problem "permanently"?
